Pause Ponder and Sumo Wrestlers On Horseback

This was an odd pic but we had some great captions this week. Not to say we don't every week, but this week's captions were sumothing else!

Moooooog bowed in with...

The race was too close to call when, suddenly and without warning, Kato ate his horse.

00dozo got a leg up with...

As a demonstration sport for the 2016 Olympics. here we have the new combined event of steeplechase for sushi.

Last week's winner Renal Failure wrestled with his entry...

Nakamura prepares to activate his wasabi-powered nitro booster. Seven horses and their jockeys will die instantly.

And KABLOOEY threw her weight around with...

When the Oshima stable recruited the dim-witted, yet enthusiastic new sumo trainee, it didn't occur to the hefty lad that he'd wandered into the wrong type of stable. Poor Akinori is about to massively lose face when he discovers his mistake.

But it was Jeremy from We Took The Bait who forced all his opponents out of the ring with.

Somewhere, there's a 90 pound guy preparing to wrestle someone four times his size.

Way to go Jeremy! You be hangin' with the dufus this week. Congratulations.

Speaking of hangin', hey folks, don't forget I'll be hangin' out here next Tuesday...

Don's asked me to sit in for him and salute some morons, so be sure and stop by. Oh, I'm not insinuating you're a moron. Uh, not that there's anything wrong with that. No, ah, Don writes about morons. Yeah that's the ticket. And wait till you see the moron I've come up with. Now, I know some of you folks can't read without moving your lips, so I'll remind you again next week.

Ha, ha, ha! A great caption, Jeremy! Congrats!

The other honourables were equally hilarious, and congrats to you too.

Thanks dufus, for the mention, as well.

00dozo: We had a lot of great captions this week. It gets tougher and tougher to choose a winner.

Those were some funny caps. I had a problem with that, as I do most of the pictures. See you Tuesday.

Quality as always.

Is Don going to have you update his fantasy football team too?

Don: Looking forward to our little experiment. That was a fresh piece, just for you.

renal failure: Another good caption from you this week. Yeah, it looks like Don could use all the help he can get on that fantasy football thing.

Jeremy did good, I laughed out loud when I read his caption. Definitely the right choice, Noname!

Ziva: Yep. It was almost neck-and-neck but Jeremy won in a photo-finish.
Wow! That was unexpected...

Thanks, Dufus and all!

I feel like Guns N' Roses accepting the best heavy metal video of 1989 over Metallica. Grateful, of course, but was anticipating honorable mention at best.

I'll steal this one from Tgoette/Moooooog/Ziva/Kablooey/00dozo.

Jeremy: Imma let you finish but Beyonce really had the best video. Oh wait, this isn't the MTV awards, it's my dufus thingy and you had the funniest caption. Way to go!

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...

My Back Pages - October

Well, folks, I read seven (count 'em) seven books in October. One I didn't finish but even at that I hit the magic number 50 I estimated for myself by the end of the year. The six books I successfully waded through were, firstly, What Happened, Hillary Clinton's book on her bid for the Presidency. I''m a bit of a political junkie so I get off on this stuff but still it kinda struck me as one long whine over losing. Next up was the excellent Canyon of Dreams: The Magic and Music of Laurel Canyon. Laurel Canyon was the fabled area outside of Los Angeles where many musicians and artists lived. Known as a 60s enclave, the book takes a look at just who lived there over the last 80 years. A fascinating read. Next up was Lightfoot, a biography of Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot. He may have been responsible for some iconic folk songs but he was also quite the womanizer and boozer. Enough said. Then I read Dan Brown's new tome Origin, the fifth ...
