Displacement Activity

So here I am with time on my hands. I'm waiting for my iPad battery to recharge so I can get back to the latest "Jack Reacher" novel I'm reading, Without Fail . It's great to order e-books. They're cheaper and delivery is immediate. The downside is you're at the mercy of your iPad battery. So my choices to fill the time - or as I like to call it: displacement activity - were either solitaire on my laptop or write a post. I'm tired of solitaire - which I keep losing - so the blog wins out. I was up with the birds this morning, taking my car to the dealership to install the winter tires, do an oil change, check the brake fluid level and look at the muffler which was getting kind of noisy. So I'm sitting in the waiting room, reading my iPad book and BAM - or BLING, I guess - the power went out. So looking at my car took longer than I expected due to the lack of power. And, of course, I used up more of my iPad battery which I'd brought alo...

You Want It You Got It

Over the last year, since 2009, the Toyota car company has recalled over 10 million automobiles.  The reason was primarily faulty accelerator pedals and problems with brakes. These defects gave new meaning to the Toyota marketing slogan: "Moving Forward" - and how! Now comes news the company is recalling 260,000 Lexus and Crown models due to faulty engine valves.  Funny, how since the previous problems, Toyota has been advertising how safety conscious and quality control driven (no pun intended) the company is. We should have seen it coming.  In an attempt to assure consumers Gulf States Toyota President Toby Hynes was quoted recently as saying, "The core Toyota product is still the same product."  This must be a company media line because the automaker's most recent television commericals use the same thing - along the lines that while other things have changed in our lives, Toyota remains the same.  Yikes!  We should have seen the signs. Now if To...

Pull Over

A traffic cop pulled alongside a speeding car on the motorway. Glancing into the car, he was astounded to see that the young lady, who was driving, was knitting. Realising that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the policeman wound down his window, turned on his loudspeaker and yelled, 'PULL OVER!' 'NO', the young lady yelled back, 'IT's A SCARF!' **** There weren't any speeding cars where I was on the weekend. In fact they were all pulled over. My lovely wife tore me away from the computer Saturday afternoon and off we went to the annual Aylmer Auto Show at nearby Parc Des Cedres, bordering the Ottawa River. It was a gorgeous day, for a change, after having endured the wettest July on record. It was warm and sunny and there were lots of great vintage cars just waiting to have their pictures taken. And I mean vintage: some of these cars were actually older than I am! Not many, mind you...but some.
