50th Pause Ponder and Pun

Yeah, I wish. No this post has nothing to do with a 50 foot woman, I just liked the poster. But it is the 50th edition of Pause Ponder and Pun. Thirteen months ago, on August 5, 2009, I launched PPP because, as I said at the time...

"...lately there's a dearth of caption contests out there. Poor old Joe at Crochety Old Man has been laid up in the hospital and re-hab and been unable to award his Zucchini for what is perhaps the best weekly caption contest on the interwebz. And Chica at Lady Sarcasm awarded her last cherished Kick Ass Captioneer award a week or so ago. And, horror of horrors, the caption kings and awarders of the Twinsey Award, Philip and Douglas - the Dyer Boys - have gotten out of the blogging business altogether!"

Since then, people like ettarose and the Screaming MeMe, who both ran caption contests, stopped blogging. Boy, has the captioning landscape changed in just a year.

So folks, I have you to thank for coming back each week and keeping this little caption contest up and running. You guys are the funniest captionistas on the interwebs, to be sure. My deepest thanks. We now return to our regularly scheduled program...

Now in keeping with today's theme, here's a cheesy pic of 50 Cent and Tyra Banks...

We'll see you Saturday with the 50th anniversary winner!

Congrats on your 50th!! And thanks for continuing the caption contests!

Here's mine:

50 Cent lets one rip as he plays his version of "pull my finger" with Tyra.

Hell, I'm still thinking about that 50ft. tall woman knowing now that I'm all grown up why all of those cars below her were crashing.

..and then Tyra pulled off the mask to reveal that 50 Cent has just been Carrot Top all along.

Don: You think she pulled a Britney Spears? Yeah, I guess even granny panties don't come in quadruple XXX size.

I miss Me Me and Joe, though he still blogs occasionally. And Ettarose was awesome. I miss all those guys but I don't miss their caption contests, I suck at them. I do enjoy reading all of the captions but I get writers block and caption envy because my brain just doesn't think that way until after I have left a stupid comment, usually hours after, and it's too late to go back because someone else has said basically the same thing, and it was lame anyway.

Feigning interest in his cute earlobes, Tyra wipes off some of her excessive leg moisturizer from her fingers.

Oh I miss Joe and MeMe wicked hard! And I miss the others too! And Chelle! I know, she didn't do caption contests, I just miss her wicked humor.

Congrats to you for keeping us on our captioning toes!

And Vicki stole (hee hee) my idea. I was thinking along the lines of a nice pimple to pop. I've never met a pimple I didn't want to pop.

Hey! Maybe that should be my caption.

"I've never met a pimple, I didn't want to pop!"

Congrats on the 50th PPP, Dufus! And thanks for providing such a fun and safe haven for us captioners to congregate without the fear of being arrested for indecent composure.

Here's mine:

"Aww, you have a tattoo of a kitten behind your ear! That's so gangsta!"

Congratulations on your 50th caption contest, Dufe. I think I'll sit this one out because I've drawn a complete blank on the photo. I think it's because of all that Vaseline on Tara's legs. It's blinding.
Leeuna said…
Sorry, I meant Tyra's legs not Tara's.

Tyra's failed attempt at the Vulcan Nerve Pinch has some unexpected results. She'll have to throw that couch out now.
Happy 50th, Dufus! That's a lot of hangin'! Congratulations!

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...
