And Sometimes She Smells Her Own Farts

How's your Labour Day going? Did you kickback this weekend and enjoy that last long weekend of the summer? Okay, enough about you. I know someone who's been labouring in a somewhat different way. She's been labouring to leave a comment on my blog.
Lately I've noticed a problem with my comments. Some time ago I switched my comment system from Blogger to Disqus. For the most part I'm quite happy with the change. But sometimes for some people who visit my blog, Disqus doesn't show up. Blogger does. And so folks leave comments that end up in the great internet abyss. They just don't make it to my blog. One such person is Janna of The Jannaverse, one of the funniest bloggers I know. I stop by her place every day. You should too. Don't take my word for it. Find out for yourself. Here's what she wrote about this whole comment conundrum over on her blog last week.
Janna's stunt double.

I give up.
I know technology hates me, and I've been relatively at ease with that fact for a couple years now. Technology and I called a truce after the Great Blowtorch Incident Of 2007, but that's another story.
Anyway, I've been trying to leave comments on a certain blog, and it just isn't quite working out.
I think it might have something to do with the fact that I'm on dial-up or I'm using Firefox or something. Apparently there's something called "Disqus" which I'm supposed to click on instead of the regular "comments" link, but it isn't showing up on my screen even though I guess it shows up for everyone else just fine.

Here's a screencap of what I see on my screen.
Where's the disqus thing?

(*momentary pause while I rev up the blowtorch*)

Anyway, just because I feel like it, here are a few of the comments I tried posting:

"With the recession looming, Steve could no longer afford to pay for an
entire haircut."

Things the letters FTWL could stand for:
1. First, There Were Lepers
2. Friday They Watched Lettuce
3. Finding Todd's White Lingerie
4. Free The Whale Livers!
5. Flatulent Truckers Were Laughing

Since my comments are invisible, I can breathe a sigh of relief as I admit that I have absolutely no clue who Jack Layton is.
Also, I ran a red light today, and sometimes I like smelling my own farts.

Whenever I do vegetarian week on the Jannaverse, nobody cares and hardly anyone comments.
I see now what I was doing wrong.
I forgot to post pictures of myself wearing nothing but a lettuce-bra.
Oh, that was priceless. I'm glad I could share these comments with all of you. I only wish she could share her comments with me. Care to comment Janna?

That's weird. Sometimes I had trouble using Disqus in Explorer, but when I downloaded FireFox, my problems all went away. For the most part. Although recently, I have been unable to comment on Jayne's blog. Sometimes Disqus is just wonky, no matter what you do.

Also, I just biggified the screenshot of what she sees. That's a picture of your home page. If she clicks on the title of the post, she'll enter into the article and should be able to see the Disqus box. Or, she could try clicking on the link to the comments (where it says 13 Comments).

While her post ws hilarious the situation with my comments is not. It sucks, really. I e-mailed Disqus about the problem last week but have yet to hear back from them.
nonamedufus said…
Yeah I think she tried both approaches. All she sees is the Blogger comment pop-up...no sign of Disqus. Sigh.

Damn, I still didn't make the " almost honorable mentions" shit I gtta tighten up
nonamedufus said…
Well your comment made it through, Skeeter. It just showed up in a post two days later!

OMG.
Am I famous now?
I think part of my soul just died.

The irony, of course, is that you get more comments writing about my blog than I get on the actual blog.

If this comment actually shows up, I may not survive the shock.

HOLY POOP!!! You made it! This day will go down in history as the day Janna got through to leave a comment that actually showed up on my blog. Yahoo, Janna. Way to go. Janna? Janna? You okay? Can you hear me Janna? Take it easy. Deep breaths. There you go. You'll be fine

Ha! Janna's typically hysterical, as usual. (That is in the funny "ha-ha" sense, not in the "funny in the head" sense.)
;-)

I had a recent notification from Blogger that it upgraded something or other. I didn't bother to read it since it really sucked when Blogger did nothing to address the commenting issue many so months ago. It may be possible that this has something to do with it?

And, coincidentally (?), a some of my Disqus comment notifications have not reached my e-mail. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya.

But I really didn't know Janna did lettuce nudies.

;-)

Yeah, I guess Disqus has some quirks now and then. Not the blogger Quirks sense but in the non-blogger quirks sense. Oh Janna's the funniest thing on the internet. Except when it comes to vegetarian week when she's very, very serious. Here's a picture of her. She looks like she and Pamela Anderson were separated at birth, don't you think?

O ya.... um......... You know.... all my hilarious, outrageous (dare I say genius) comments also got lost in the blogosphere too.....

Yeah Disqus was totally sucking out at some point last week. A few points actually. It's the one thing I hate about Disqus is that we're always at the mercy of their network.

Nice screencap btw ;)

At one point last week there was no "comments" at the end of each post. How do you leave a comment when that happens? Weird.
Mike said…
You don't. You just wait until Disqus gets their act together.

It was weird though. When it happened, I went to other blogs that had Disqus and yep, same problemo there too.

Whew! I thought for a moment you had busted ME.

Or you had smelled something kind of off...

Ahem.

*smile*

Yay for Janna! She finally made it. heh heh.
nonamedufus said…
Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Let's hope it doesn't happen again any time soon.
nonamedufus said…
No I didn't bust YOU but you bust me up, Quirks.

okay, well Disqus is not here right now. But I am TOTALLY going to check out Janna of The Jannaverse, because she is FLIPPEN hilarious!

I hate Disqus, mostly because it only works about 50% of the time. On the other hand, I hate a lot of things that I do, so why complain?
nonamedufus said…
Whew, I'm certainly glad you don't hate me. Or do you? And if you did would you complain about me? Hmmm...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
