Sunday Funnies

Where the Wild Things Are opened in theatres last week and several political cartoonists, both north and south of the border sought inspiration from it. In Canada, the balloon boy fallout translated nicely into the political games the Liberals were playing. The medical marijuana debate in the States inspired a couple of cartoonists. And, oddly enough, as Halloween approaches, several cartoonists used it as a backdrop for their economic portrayals...

Speaking of Halloween, my buds over at Humor Bloggers Dot Com are getting their ghoul-on this week. Drop by to see what the rest of the crew are doing each and every day leading up to the big night. Tell 'em Dufus sent ya.

I would love to be able to draw a cartoon and make the world "get it." I loved these. My captcha word is almost colon.(coloine) Goes right along with politics doesn't it?

ettarose: Great to see you out and about. Thanks for taking the time to visit. One of my favourite moments of the week is reviewing the week's editorial cartoons to see which make this post. Glad you enjoyed them.

My favorite has to be the putting of the financial section on the porch to scare people. I have to admit I love the costume one as well though :)

My confirm word, "wishmen". Yep, I certainly wish the men in government had a clue :D

Skye: Interesting how many cartoonists chose the economy to scare us. Does art imitate life?

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
