Catching Up

It's been a while since I've updated folks on where my cancer's at.  Well, it's still right where it was before.  The latest development, though, is a drop in my hemoglobin levels which unfortunately makes me anemic.  So I've been kinda tired lately; little energy for anything; poor appetite.  But I'm on a new medication that should help me with that.

But my doctor's seem pleased with my lab results.  The chemo appears to be having an impact, apart from making me feel like crap.  I've been on the chemo since October.  Funny, eh?  It's like the worse I feel the better I am.  But I'm not fooling myself.  Yet to be scheduled is the radiation and a bone marrow transplant.  So the real fun is yet to come.

Did you hear about the guy who's doctor told him he had cancer and only 6 months to live?  When he asked the doctor what he should do the doc said move to Saskatoon and live with an economist.  The guys says, "Will that make me live longer?" and the doc says, "No, but it'll seem like a lot longer."

Hey, look what I got.  My friend idifficult from across the pond likes my blog so much he passed on a Feels Like Home Award.  Thanks, idifficult.  That means a lot.  I appreciate it.

Now I just have to pass this on to 5 blogger buddies I feel at home with.  Well, that's easy.  And be sure and click through to see why I think so highly of them...

Thanks for the update. I hope things continue to improve, including your feeling better.

Here's to hoping that your next delivery of chemo is delivered by a nympho Jessica Alba look alike.

So, yeah. That's a good wish.

Strangely, I feel jealous.
You and moooooog probably make me laugh the hardest on twitter.

I really really miss visiting ottawa.

AmyLK: Thanks a bunch Amy.

May you continue on the improvement road!

Congrats on the award!

I wish you all the best. Although, there may be some selfishness in that wish. You have to get better because your voice is too entertaining and insightful to be diminished by cancer or its treatment.

KaLynn: Thanks,I appreciate it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Joel: Wow, thanks, Joel. That was nice of you. How kind and thoughtful.

It's nice to know that the chemo is working for you...I was wondering about this the other day since we have not heard from you on the subject. Now, we have heard from you on the subject. Now, I won't wonder about it until next time. Thanks for the shoutout and thought with the award. That's a much "sweeter" award than I could come up with. Thanks.

Aw thanks Nomie!

Yes, I've been wondering about your chemo progress too.

"the worse I feel the better I am."

Yep, sounds like the toxins are a'workin'!

My hat's off to you, cuz you definitely handle all the chemo crap like a trooper!

Does it still count if I don't wear hats?

hee hee

Keep plugging along Nomie, you're my hero!

Don: I'll keep you up to speed every so often. The award's just a little thing but it is a token of how much I enjoy reading your blog every day.
nonamedufus said…
Quirks: Oh, yeah, the toxins are workin' and you're one who'd know. Like Don, you're among my top 5 daily visits. I really enjoy your stories and your fine sense of humour.

Cancer seems to be the "nice person's disease," because it seems to only hit really nice people. Maybe the key is to go through life as a rat-bastard-m'f'er. Although, maybe I only know nice people and that's why it seems that way to me.

Laughter = endorphins, the good chemical. Wishing you a steady stream of laughter always.

Hey noname:

My butt is numb from sitting on a couch that has this god-awful bar in it (yours was my last stop before signing off and relieving my hiney - whoever thought hideaway couches were comfy? Why did I buy this couch?) But I digress..

Where was I going with this conversation? ... Oh, yeah. Sorry. Did I ever mention I have ADD?

But anyway, I was wondering if you'd consider doing a Q & A post so all of us could pump you with questions? Like the question I'd like to ask you at present (although I'm sure I'll think of something else later) was,

-- oh shit, what was it? --

Oh. There! Grabbed that thought back again. Whew!

..are you a fan of the Hitch-hikers' Guide to the Galaxy? (what with your "Don't Panic" moniker next to each of your posts, and all). Because if you are, then -
and here's where I hope you've become somewhat familiar with binary code over the years - then you should plan something extremely special for 10-10-10..because, well, in binary code, 101010 = 42, which anyone familiar with Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy knows, is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

Just throwing that out there as we all plan our year...

And I'm glad the doctors seemed pleased. Keep hanging in there.

Ms 30?: I'm a huge fan of H2G2 and of Douglas Adams. And my mantra at thi stage of life is, indeed, "don't panic".

Thanks for the good wishes. And, yeah, when the doctors are happy I usually am too.

Good luck with the couch and the ADD.

Me-Me: Well, I'm glad you like the award. You know how much I enjoy your blog.
If feeling crappy means you're better, then I really hope you feel like shit so you can get totally better. Seriously, thanks for the update, though. It's wonderful that you can continue to laugh and make us laugh through it all! I often wonder how you are doing and send healing thoughts your way. Here are some more...

CL: Aw, man. You and the other folks who've commented just blow me away. Thanks, Cat Lady - sincerely.
NoName, I started reading your blog after you first posted about your cancer, so I really appreciate the update. I'm sure this is much tougher than you let on, and I'm impressed that you maintain a good attitude in the face of a lot of pain and fear and whatnot. Me, I get a hangnail and I'm done for the week.

And thanks for the award, by the way. I've had my share of troubles lately, which is one reason I've been a little absent, and I appreciate the vote of confidence more than I can say.

Mike: I know many of us don't let on the full extent of our "other" lives. You're welcome for the award - I enjoy your blog. And I hope all is well with your family these days.

Noname: Thanks for the update. I hate to say I didn't even know that you had cancer, but it's not like you talk about it every post. I guess most of the time that no news is good news...so here's hoping we don't hear anything more for a long while. :)
nonamedufus said…
UR: I haven't talked about it much - 3 or 4 times maybe since October. Thanks for your concern. The docs say the chemo appears to be working. And that's a good thing.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
