I was wondering how you were going to approach "the elephant in the room." I shouldn't have expected anything less: grace and dignity and the final word. Nicely done, John.

Thanks UP. This is America's remembrance. Being Canadian the event certainly affected me too but not in the same way. After all the terrorist act was directed at the US. As for the anniversary remembrance and all the observations and references, I'm kind of uncomfortable with it. Can't quite explain it, but I am. Thus, today I posted other editorial cartoons of events of the week gone by but I couldn't entirely ignore a reference to it.

Thanks, Nicky. You know over at Tribal Blogs they're doing a "carnival" (poor choice of words today) around 9/11. As a humour blogger I just couldn't bring myself to participate. It'd kinda be like Gilbert Godfrey talking about the Japanese tsunami. I thought that would be highly disrespectful. So this is what I ended up doing.
"As for the anniversary remembrance and all the observations and references, I'm kind of uncomfortable with it. Can't quite explain it, but I am." I understand. Really. I'm imposing on myself a radio silence of sorts, at least on Facebook and Twitter, because of all the commentary generated by the remembrance. Even thought about putting up "Self-imposed radio silence" for status and leaving it at that. But then it really wouldn't be "silence." I'll see you at least over at Yahoo Stattracker later today...probably only place I'll be online, other than a handful of blogs. Definitely no Facebook or Twitter. Better for my sanity.
I was conflicted by the choice of the word "carnival" too after I thought about it...however, I did want to say something, but not necessarily today. That's why I wrote it yesterday :). Enough (too much) is going to be said today, some of it, I'm sure for which people will be issuing apologies or maybe should (but won't)...on the other hand, free speech is a good thing too. I'm conflicted (obviously) about the whole thing, probably already said too much here myself and should work on that "self-imposed radio silence" more.
Being a non Canadian, non American living close to this whole thing, I am very uncomfortable. Terrorists - we love Canada for taking all our terrorists, just don't give them any money!
Why can't Peyton's daddy fix this for him as usual?

That's a misconception, Stefana. Seriously.

I completely understand. I'm kinda poking around some blogs and FB, but that's about it. See you for some football later.

The whole thing grabs at you, the original incident. Me, I think the observance today is fine...and natural. But it was the week's worth of media hoopla that preceded today that kind of did me in.

I'm not aware of past incidents. But they certainly are a family dynasty when it comes to football, aren't they. And I certainly know a couple of fantasy football participants who are kinda broken up over his injury.

It's the draft hoopla happened with Eli.

;-)

Good pick for the remembrance.

No really. Canada doesn't harbour terrorists. Where did you get your info?
nonamedufus said…
Oh, okay, the thing with the Chargers.

Yeah I liked the "Canadian" toon too. On 9/11, see the comments already made.

I'm glad also that you didn't inundate us with... you know... *sad smile*. I agree with UP, it was done with grace and dignity and I thank-you.

You didn't have to post it, but you did, but you did, but you did.... and I thank you!

HA!

As for the rest, always a good chuckle or two or three. *grin*

I did see the comments. I had something (a lot actually) to say about the "Canadian" terrorists thing, but there's been enough hype on that issue. What has happened cannot be undone, but don't blame Canadians for it (that is, in a nutshell, what I had to say).

I have some info but I am not giving you any info. On the other hand my terrorist is not your terrorist!

I'm glad you got through my Blogger/Disqus comment maze. I agree with your point.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
