Pause Ponder and Pun Envy

I should have known that a picture of a bunch of near-naked men would have brought the best out in you guys. I thought this was a very appropriate pic this week given the heat wave many of us have been suffering through. As my dear mother might have said about these guys "They couldn't catch their breath in short pants".

We had a lot of funny captions this week. Let's get to 'em.

They could have saved a lot of money. Instead of all those guys, one black dude could have displayed the whole damn collection.
Skeeter

You spin me right round, baby right round like a record, baby right right round round.

But the sign said Singles Night!

Who needs latex when you have vinyl.

But our winner this week had me choking on my chimichanga! And that's not a euphemism. Although her caption sure got a rise out of me.

"Hey look! We finally got Disqus!"

Way to go Double zero, that was an hilarious caption. All I could think of after reading that was "they're doing it wrong". So you get to hang with dufus this week. You wanna come over and I can show you my 10 inch...record collection?

Thanks to everyone for your great captions and we'll see you all Wednesday for another edition of Pause Ponder and Pun.

I think we set a "record" for the number of hilarious comments. Too bad I couldn't share them all here.

Most of the guys are on long play but the guy in the middle has a 45.
nonamedufus said…
So you're saying his record finishes quicker?
Shawn said…
I am saying, some people like to hold compact discs while others prefer extended play. I on the other hand prefer a boxed set.

You're really in the groove.

I love it! Disqus. I wish I had thought of that one! Hilarious! Congrats to all (and me...an honorable mention YAY!). *smile*

Yep, 00dozo was solid gold this week.

Yay!! Disqus!! Good job 00

She certainly goes in the "album" of great comments.

All your records are just as good as the other – there’s nothing to get all cassette about. (took me four hours to come up with that one.)
nonamedufus said…
Well I wouldn't want you to make an acetate of yourself.
Those were awesome!!!
nonamedufus said…
Yeah, there's actually some pretty bright and funny folks reading my blog. Imagine.

Thanks, dufus! (Yeah, I know it was kind of a lame segue from one of my posts.) And I'd love to come over and see your big 10 inch ... record collection. Got any Men Without Hats??

;-)

Congrats to the honourables, too!

Thanks, Madge! I honestly thought you would win - your 'latex/vinyl' made me laugh!

I thought that comment was so funny. When you made another comment about hat's off to Devo's comeback I immediately thought of Men Without Hats. But I won't go there.
00dozo said…
Heh, heh ... that's kinda what I was thinking. Great minds (?) Okay, lets not ... go there, I mean.

I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance

Great captions! Singles night in particular struck me as funny. Good job to all. CDs and mp3's can't hold a candle to vinyl.
00dozo said…
Hey, we can dance
If you wear pants
Then you'll be a great friend of mine

;-)
nonamedufus said…
That's not how it goes. It's funnier though.

The captions are great from the pic on Wednesday but so are the comments on Saturday. We have a lot of fun. You should join us next time.

And you're right. There's nothing quite like vinyl.

Hey, don't forget to stop by my caption contest - Pause, Ponder and Pun - and leave a caption. You might win exciting prizes. Well, no prizes really but significant web cred to have been awarded the I Be Hangin' With Dufus citation. Oh yeah, baby! Meanwhile on with today's post...

The debate on the positive versus negative impacts of social media networking continues, this time around the Catholic Church has waded in.

Me? In addition to having friends in the real world, I find such social media as Twitter, Facebook and my blog an interesting way to interact with new people across all social strata, age groups and geographic locations. Indeed, I think it's the technological equivalent of Walt Disney's philosophy: It's A Small World, After All. (I stress philosophy and not that annoying theme park song)

Couldn't watch it all, could you? But I digress...

I thought the Catholic Church ran out of feet to stand on a long time ago. But apparently it has as many feet…

Exercising My Rights (And My Lefts)

I confess, I'm not the most energetic of people. After all I'm a guy whose Facebook status reads "I'm not lazy. I'm just energy efficient". In fact, few people know but if you look up couch potato in the dictionary it has my picture.

At my house, we're so lazy even my cat is a couch potato.

But I've decided it's high time to do something about it. I've decided to undertake cross-country skiing. And, speaking of which, after our little session this morning, an undertake-r is something I could have really used. We're quite fortunate where we live. The ski trails are a five-minute walk (more exercise!). But miracle of miracles, I stayed upright the whole time. Putting the skis on was interesting.
"You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out..."
The trail itself was gorgeous, with hardly anyone else out at 9:30 in the morning. Which worked out fine for me. I didn't have to pull over to let faster skiers (read: everyone e…

30 Days of Photos - #4 - The Experiment

If you expected to find Pause Ponder and Pun here don't worry. You can still leave a caption on this week's pic over at dufus daze while we run 30 Days of Photos on my main blog...

Here's something unusual for an urban centre. In the heart of Canada's capital is a huge block of open land (400 hectares) called The Central Experimental Farm. It was established in 1886 (thats a long time for an "experiment") as the central research station for the federal Department of Agriculture. When I first entered the public service in the mid 80s (that's the 1990s) I worked at Agriculture in the Sir John Carling Building located on the farm.
