30 Days of Photos - Day 2 - Illuminate


This is one of the outbuildings at the Mission Hill Winery in Westbank, British Columbia. We visited the winery when we were in Kelowna last month.

I thought the structure was neat and I really liked how the sun illuminated the shade, sort of intruding.

Mission Hill is a very up-scale and popular site with tours and tasting.

We skipped the tour and went straight to the tasting.

Mission Hill is quite the winery. It's very nice, up-scale and all; it borders on the pretentious. But it seems to work. Their products are quite popular

I love the tours more than the tastings. There's so much interesting information about growing, harvesting, crushing, fermenting, and aging. Their products are even on the shelves in stores way over here.

Funny story. To the left of the building in the picture is a hillside that was laid out with seats and a stage. i thought they'd had some kind of presentation the night before. Turns, out, I found out later on Facebook, it was in preparation for a performance by Pink Martini the next night.

Cheryl stole my thunder about the lovely scene on the other side of those beautiful arches. When I enlarged your photo, I was amazed at the beauty of the mountains in the background. I am used to flat land and dirt. Sigh. I love mountains and you know I love wine, so I need to check this place out. During your bender...I mean tasting...did you decide on your favorite wine? Share.

I'm not the wine drinker in the family unfortunately. And I was driving that day and had to be a good boy. But Mrs D, her Aunt and Mom enjoyed the wine. This was well before lunch, too! Mrs D bought some Mission Hill and Quail's Gate at the airport to bring back home.

Beautiful! I love how when you do these challenges you include a description of the places. I find it very interesting and since I won't be visiting B.C. anytime soon I feel like I've gotten the Rick Steve's tour from the comfort of my P.C.

Fantastic photo, NoName. One of your best ever, in my opinion. I love the way the light forms arrows that look as if they're pointing you toward the booze. Which I hope they were. And I hope you partook.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
