30 Days of Photos - Day 2 - Illuminate

This is one of the outbuildings at the Mission Hill Winery in Westbank, British Columbia. We visited the winery when we were in Kelowna last month.

I thought the structure was neat and I really liked how the sun illuminated the shade, sort of intruding.

Mission Hill is a very up-scale and popular site with tours and tasting.

We skipped the tour and went straight to the tasting.

Rise and shine and scoot on over to Ziva's blog to see how everyone else portrayed today's theme.

There is something so interesting about light and shadow. You captured it perfectly. What a great photo.

That's an interesting building and it makes for interesting lighting too.

This is a very nice photo, my bright dufus, a lovely play of light and dark under the arches.

Very nicely done, John. Is that a mountain range in the distance?

You guys are going to have to change your team name because you're all posting outstanding photos.
I guess you're a very upscale and popular guy now, Dufus. Doesn't sound very lame to me. I'm starting to get concerned.
Hey, I'm doing MY best to stay true to #teamlame here, Cheryl. Somebody's gotta do it.

It was really the sun and the building. I just took the picture.
nonamedufus said…
The sun and the shadows made for an interesting pic.
nonamedufus said…
I'm really glad you like it, Ziva. I won't be "wine-ing" about your whip today.
nonamedufus said…
Good eye, Cheryl. It's part of the Rockies.

Maybe we could call ourselves "team somewhat lame"?
nonamedufus said…
You're a worthy captain, Boom Boom.
nonamedufus said…
It's all an act. Deep down inside I'm lame.
Keep posting art-worthy photos like this, Dufus, and I'm going to have to make you walk the plank.
Nicky said…
You do realize tasting and binge drinking are not the same, right? You don't? Whew! Team Lame is still safe. :-)

Very pretty! I would have skipped the tour and gone straight to the tasting too!

I really like the tunnel effect. It draws me in.
nonamedufus said…
Damn, I guess that's why my subsequent photos were all out of focus...like me.
nonamedufus said…
Mission Hill is quite the winery. It's very nice, up-scale and all; it borders on the pretentious. But it seems to work. Their products are quite popular
meleahrebeccah said…
That's definitely some place I'd LOVE to visit!
Cheryl said…
In fact, you're right. I only have one good eye at a time. I hate what age is doing to my organs and body.
Cheryl said…
Even you aren't posting lame photos so your whole team is a sham.
Cheryl said…
I love the tours more than the tastings. There's so much interesting information about growing, harvesting, crushing, fermenting, and aging. Their products are even on the shelves in stores way over here.
nonamedufus said…
Mrs D and I took the tour an a previous visit. It was amazing. But we skipped it this time in favour of more tasting.
nonamedufus said…
Funny story. To the left of the building in the picture is a hillside that was laid out with seats and a stage. i thought they'd had some kind of presentation the night before. Turns, out, I found out later on Facebook, it was in preparation for a performance by Pink Martini the next night.

Tell me about it. My eyesight's all wonky these days due to my diabetes. I'm seeing better without my glasses. Sigh.

Aye, aye, Captain.

I'm mclovin the arches

Does everything in BC have to be beautiful? I know, I'm always wining about something. I mean whining. No, wining. Wait.

Cheryl stole my thunder about the lovely scene on the other side of those beautiful arches. When I enlarged your photo, I was amazed at the beauty of the mountains in the background. I am used to flat land and dirt. Sigh. I love mountains and you know I love wine, so I need to check this place out. During your bender...I mean tasting...did you decide on your favorite wine? Share.

Nice shot!

Yeah, tours are overrated. Tastings are why we are here, folks! I love the light shadows - nice job with the prompt!
Jackal said…
Great capture... love how the light draws the eye in towards the background.

No seriously. We visited Frideay and flew home Saturday. I only learned of the show when we got back. I hope this link works.

Ah, good one Shawn. Now if only McDonalds sold wine.
nonamedufus said…
Well, BC certainly is the place to wine, Mike.
nonamedufus said…
I'm not the wine drinker in the family unfortunately. And I was driving that day and had to be a good boy. But Mrs D, her Aunt and Mom enjoyed the wine. This was well before lunch, too! Mrs D bought some Mission Hill and Quail's Gate at the airport to bring back home.

"Illuminate" gave me a lot of problems in terms of thinking up a pic to take but I found this when I went thru the shots I took in Kelowna in August. I thought it worked nicely. Thanks, Ref.
nonamedufus said…
Thanks, Jackal. It's the arches that really caught my attention. The shadows and light are the cherry on the sunday.
nonamedufus said…
Exactly. The arches got me.
nonamedufus said…
Don't speak too soon, Cheryl.
Nora Blithe said…
Beautiful! I love how when you do these challenges you include a description of the places. I find it very interesting and since I won't be visiting B.C. anytime soon I feel like I've gotten the Rick Steve's tour from the comfort of my P.C.
nonamedufus said…
Well I feel I should illuminate my fellow bloggers on what I'm portraying.
Traci Shannon said…
Skipping the tour and going straight to the tasting -- agirl after my own heart! And that is gorgeous!

Um, Traci? I'm a guy.
That is simply STUNNING. So perfectly done!
nonamedufus said…
Well, I'm glad you like it, Katherine. Thanks a lot.
Traci Shannon said…
Yeah. Sorry about that... I was tapping fast and stupid phone spell check thought my poor typing skills were creating girl instead of right. Didn't see it until it posted. I should probably slow down or learn to type better... Or both. :-)

Fantastic photo, NoName. One of your best ever, in my opinion. I love the way the light forms arrows that look as if they're pointing you toward the booze. Which I hope they were. And I hope you partook.
mikewjattoomanymornings said…
You old corker, you!
nonamedufus said…
That's okay. I'm a guy with a feminine side, too. But don't tell anyone.
nonamedufus said…
Well, you're half right.
nonamedufus said…
Wow, that's high praise from the master. Thanks, Mike. Yes the arrows were pointing to the booze. I was the DD so I was tasting juice.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
