30 Days of Photos - Day 18 - Always


I drive by this statue several times a month.

Until I stopped to take a photo yesterday in the early morning sun for today's prompt I never knew what it symbolized. "Why the hell does that guy have two hats," I'd always think as I passed by.

Turns out it's a twinning effort with the Netherlands and there's an identical statue there. You can find out more about the two statues of The Man With Two Hats here.

It's pretty much as I expected.

If the Man With Two Hats loses one of them he'll always have another!

And we'll always have Ziva to stop by and see what the rest of our photo friends did with today's prompt

Okay, and if he has two hats, then at least one is always in his hand and he won't be able to catch the Elephant Moth when it flys by.

Actually Mrs D has just done a huge clean up and thrown a bunch of stuff away. And I really think it would cost too much to ship your stuff to me to me, don't you?

I could always rent a U-Haul. And I don't think Canadian customs officials care how much stuff I bring over the border. Once I'm there, though, the US customs folks won't let me bring anything back.

I had never heard of that statue...actually statues. How neat that two countries would acknowledge an alliance in such a unique way.

It is quite fascinating isn't it? That's not the only connection we have with the Netherlands. Ottawa's Tulip Festival each year displays one million tulips. The whole thing started after the Dutch Royal family sent Ottawa 100,000 tulip bulbs in 1945 as a sign of gratitude for sheltering Princess Juliana and her daughters during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Imagine.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... I Am Charlie, I'm A Bore

Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Colin Farrel...you know the list, it goes on and on. The list of Hollywood hick-ups who not content to meltdown behind closed doors have to drag each and every detail out into the light of day and share it with all of us.
