30 Days of Photos - #10 - Waiting

Welcome to 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

Where I live there are lots of golf courses. And this time of year I'm dying to get out on them. I only started golfing a year ago but I love it.

There are almost as many marinas in the area. This one's across the river in Ottawa, Ontario. The other side of the river is Aylmer, Quebec where I live. I'm no sailor but I can identify with this guy. His is the only boat out in the slips of the marina. The rest of the sailboats are still all in storage wrapped in protective industrial strength white plastic...waiting.

Oh wow, that's a very impatient sailor! He's either very early, or just really, really late. ;) Love the photo, dufus, it's a beautiful scene.

I drove by this marina on a Sunday evening and went mack Monday morning to take a couple of pics. The others were against the backdrop of the other boats on land, wrapped up in protective covering. There was just something about the backstory about this guy who couldn't wait that seemed so compelling to me. Glad you like it, Ziva. Thanks.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You're something else.

I've never seen a marina for sail boats. That is so neat.
I like the tension here of waiting and not waiting. Some of us are just impatient, aren't we?

My favorite so far for today! I love boats. I can just imagine myself standing on the dock waiting for them to return.

Oh, geez, they're most;y all sailboats in the marinas and they really look down on those people in motor boats. Although I guess the yacht folks look down on the sailors. Gee, there's a hierarchy even on the water!

We had a real downturn in the weather here after a really unusual warm week a few weeks back. When I saw this I really had to admire the guy for being the first one out in the marina. The only one out. He just couldn't wait.

The boat looks so forlorn and lonely. When are the other boats coming. I gather it is still cold there??? Most of the boats have been brought back to the marinas here.

Great picture and it fits the catagory perfectly.

The funny thing is it's too cold here yet to go sailing. If he's on board I hope he's got a good heater! Here's another pic with the stored boats in the background.

Very cool shot! When I enlarged it I was struck even more by the contrast of the blue water against the docks and sole boat. Nice!!!

Nice shot. I think we're all waiting for spring and summer to really kick in.

It's a few weeks yet until they unload the boats into the water. It's still cool - 5 degrees celcius today. I'm glad you like the pic. It was a nice sunny day but the sun can be deceiving.

We have plenty of rivers, canals, creeks and the like in the area. It's a very picturesque region. We're very lucky.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, you said it, Mike. I was out golfing last week, though. Nice sunny day but only 2C.

We had a couple of days of nicer weather, but it's raining again this week. I think the boat looks beautiful there all by itself. It does seem to be waiting and impatient too. It looks like Spring is right around the corner.
nonamedufus said…
We can only hope, Linda. No wonder they say hope "springs" eternal.

Meleah I was following your FB updates today and I hope everything is okay health wise. Your smile there made me think that you are a lady whose courage I really admire.
I'm no sailor either, but I spent 6 years in Brighton (UK) and used to love photographing the boats. One day you and I should get a boat together. If you can provide the boat I'll be happy to bring some peas for us to eat.

I love the water, and I love boating. I owned a boat for many, many years. Sold it, finally, because my life circumstances changed and I didn't have time for it anymore. But this photograph reminds me of what I liked about it. Hated, too, because boating involves a lot of waiting.

I've spent some time at the marina down the road photographing boats in the marina. But I've never seen something like this. I alms saved this for the outlier theme day.

Oh, on your offer? Thanks but no thanks.

I'm learning so much about you during this little exercise Mike. With today's information I'm gonna start calling you Popeye. Or are you more a Captain Jack?

I love sailing and it seems this sailor is tired of waiting for better weather to arrive. If it were me I'd already be out there. Hell, there was a time I was still water skiing in October at Lake Simcoe. Nice photo. I hope the sailor doesn't have to wait to long, though.

;-)

Awwwwww!
Thank you, SO VERY MUCH.

He may have been out during the warm spell we had. I see the mast is up. While not a sailor, I totally understanding his desire to not wait any longer. Last year my son and I went out golfing so early we had to walk the course. There was so much water on the fairways our feet were soaked by the time we were done.

Thanks for showing us your dingy, Dufus. :-)

Well, I'm going to have the dreaded "procedure" at 1pm.
On Wednesday.

Then I'll need a few days in bed to heal.

After that, I should be fine.

Bahahahahahaha! Love it Nicky! Good one!

Yeah, I guess I never thought I'd see your dingy.... (Thanks Nicky for the hilarious inspiration! hee hee)!!!!

Looks just like this here too. The Wentworth Marina, the most chic and expensive around, is part of the property once owned by the Smiths & now owned by the Marriot. It's the perfect place for you. It comes complete with hotel, multiple restaurants, tennis courts, and their perfectly coifed 18-hole GOLF COURSE. Sure it's wildly expensive but you only live once. (I'm sure there are other amenities onsite but I'm too damn tired to remember.)

Did someone mention Captain Jack? Where??
nonamedufus said…
That's Captain Jack not Jack Daniels, Ziva.
nonamedufus said…
Sending positive thoughts.
nonamedufus said…
Don't encourage her, Quirks.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, that's too tiny to be mine.
nonamedufus said…
Hey, "nude" doesn't turn up until April 27th. And I'm sure you'll all be waiting for that.
nonamedufus said…
I so want to be there. Sounds fantastic, Cheryl.
I honestly had you down as a yes. I'm going to have to cancel that pea shipment.
They wrap boats up? In plastic? Wow! I get more of an education here than anywhere else.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, yeah, they do. See?

I keep trying to convince my husband we need to have a getaway vacation over there. Since it's about 3 or 4 miles from here, he can't understand why I'd want to go spend all that money. He's a Libra so his romantic inclinations tend to conflict with his pragmatism.

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...
