30 Days of Photos - Day 6 - 2 Birds, 1 Stone

These 2 birds, Canada Geese, were hanging out on the fairway at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club. I came close to killing two birds with one golf ball.

The stone was on another hole, a par three. It was one of many stones lining the water I had to hit over to reach the green.

I put everything I had into my drive. It flew over the water towards the pin.

As the ball came down it hit one of the huge stones lining the water trap. And I lost it, thinking it fell back into the water.

I reached the green and there it was. About 2 yards from the hole.

I putted and sank that sucker. A Birdie!

So I guess you could say with two strokes I got one birdie!

Fly on over to Ziva's Inferno and check out the rest of today's pics.

Nice shot, buddy! I'll bet that made your day.

I hope those birds don't ever get hit with golf balls. In fact you could say three birds one ball?

Really, a beautiful shot. But I have my eye on the 19th hole.

Actually, the 2-stroke birdie made my day. I cold have cared less about the geese.

I'm sure it happens. But, hey, serves them right for grazing on a fairway, right? Just kidding. In the past I've had to hold up while momma, poppa and baby geese traipsed across the fairway. It's actually the coolest thing to see.

Yes, you do. That's the clubhouse in the background.

Oh, I bet it is. Bet you wish you had a camera at times like that :)

Oh, I've managed to snap a few deer on the course and a fox or two.

Nice job on the birdie, dufus! Oh, and nice job on the birdie photo, too.

Thank you. Thank you. This was a gorgeous golf course. I loved playing it...birds and all.

When I visited Meleah in NJ, everyone asked me if I could take the geese back to Canada with me. It seems not everyone on a golf course appreciates those birdies. They've obviously never participated in photo challenges!

Now if you could just train the geese to retrieve the golf balls from the water and return them, you would be in business!

The shot to the hole is the one I was talking about. Even I didn't care about the geese after hearing your story.
nonamedufus said…
And, like, they thought you were Mother Goose, or something?
nonamedufus said…
Ha, ha, yeah. A fox once picked up my ball and ran down the fairway with it for about 80 yards before dropping it. You have to play it where it lays and that fox helped shave a stroke or two off that hole!
nonamedufus said…
Oh, it was amazing. I was so happy.

Yeah. Um.

I totally need to visit the Kelowna Golf and Country Club in REAL LIFE.

Sweet shot, John!

It's such a great looking course and the weather was amazing. We were really blessed.

LOL! It was good thing you were on the golf course. A perfect day.

That's a great story, NoName. God was with you that day. Other days, maybe not so much. God's fickle like that, which makes Him a very unreliable friend, in my opinion.

Oh, I guess this really isn't the best forum for philosophical discussions.

Good luck with the golfing, my friend.

The Pied Gooser?
nonamedufus said…
Oh, it was, Lauren. My score wasn't all that great that day but that hole was amazing.
nonamedufus said…
Actually my brother-in-law and his son were with me, Mike. Who is this God person you speak of?
nonamedufus said…
In Nicky's case it might have been the pie-eyed gooser.
Nora Blithe said…
It's a shame you missed the geese. I really hate geese.
nonamedufus said…
About as much as I hate cats?
BRILLIANT!!!!

I actually know someone that killed a Canada goose on a golf course! Golf ball NAILED that goose... it fell down dead!
nonamedufus said…
That'd work out really well if it happened around Thanksgiving.
MalisaHargrove said…
OMG! You and your funny stories. Have you ever done that a FORE?
nonamedufus said…
Oh I'm green with envy over that pun. I have a fair way to go to match it.
nonamedufus said…
Nanny nanny boo boo.
A birdie in two strokes? Is that what that is?
You done Dufus proud today, Malisa!
nonamedufus said…
Yeah it was a par three hole. I sunk the ball in 2 strokes. One under par or birdie.

Well done... on both sides of the 2 and 1! And yay for a Birdie!

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
