30 Days of Photos - #29 - Lines

Welcome to the second last day of 30 Days of Photos, where 18 bloggers are participating in posting a photo a day for 30 days. Here are the other 17 you can visit after you've been here:

These lines are actually bleachers at the soccer field near our house.

They haven't started to play yet.

But when they do you can bet parents and family members will be lining up to watch.

Really fun shot. They look like they go on forever.

I'll bet it's more peaceful there right now than it will be when those bleachers are lined with crazy, often obnoxious, parents and grands.

Bleachers always hurt my boney butt. :(
Lights too. I bet that's fun to deal with when the season's in full swing, huh?
nonamedufus said…
When they get going the place is always busy. It's part of a complex of 2 soccer fields a baseball diamond, tennis and basketball courts.
nonamedufus said…
Yeah, you'd probably want to bring a cushion.
nonamedufus said…
Well, the field's just far away enough not to worry about the effect of the lights at night, or the noise. And we wouldn't want folks paling in the dark.

Something about bleachers... makes a great photo

I took several shots from different angles but this perspective was my favourite. Like Cheryl said, it looks like they go on forever.

I'm thinking splinters. heh heh

How do these wooden bleachers last the Canadian winters? No warping? heh heh
nonamedufus said…
Ha, ha. That really would make watching soccer quite uncomfortable.

Great angle for the shot, duf! Wonderful idea for the theme. Rah! Rah! Go Duf!

Very nice angle on this photo! We were sitting on those in Atherton yesterday watching my granddaughter Emma play La Crosse, (however you spell it!)
nonamedufus said…
Thank you, ma'am. I liked that angle best.
nonamedufus said…
I believe it's "lacrosse" - a Native Canadian game!
Ziva said…
Oh wow, those are some seriously long bleachers. Great photo, dufus, and great take on the theme. :)
nonamedufus said…
Well they're the length of the soccer field. But taken at one end of the stands they look like they go on forever. I thought it was kinda neat.

Wow. I haven't seen wooden bleachers in AGES. It's all metal around here. Great photo!

Less likelihood of burning your butt in the hot sun!
Yeah I know , you guys don't play football very well, hence the "yet", but one day you will, Beckham will teach you (the high-pitched dweeb that moved over there).

Meleah is right about the fact there aren't any wooden bleachers around here either. Haven't seen any in years. What a great photo and perfect for the theme.
Nicky said…
Awesome shot, Dufus, and it looks like a gorgeous day too. Love the angle!
Mikewj said…
Great shot, Dufus. I spent so much time sitting on bleachers in the last 10 or 15 years, I can't even add it up. Entire years, I suspect. I've probably got lines on my ass from it.
nonamedufus said…
What is the "totes" of which you speak?
nonamedufus said…
You Brits always confuse me with the term "football". It's just not the same as our football in North America. The "yet" is in reference to the weather. It's too cold for soccer season.
nonamedufus said…
It's a good point. I hadn't thought of that. I suppose we'd better watch out for splinters.
nonamedufus said…
Thanks, Nicky. I appreciate it. It was a gorgeous day. This is the day that when I turned around I took a picture of my shadow for Day 12.

So like, you must be an honourary member of the FAS. (The Flat Ass Society)

Oooh, yeah, splinters. I've had a few. Really good shot, dufus, mostly because of the angle.

;-)
nonamedufus said…
Ouch, I'd hate when that happened.
meleahrebeccah said…
It's short for totally!
nonamedufus said…
Ah, okay. I kept seeing you use it and I thought it was internet-speak like lmao and lol, etc., but didn't know what it stood for.

Now I get it. Totes.

Bleachers bring back a lot memories. I think they're built the same way everywhere.
MalisaHargrove said…
Not many wooden bleachers left anymore. Not here anyway. Splinters vs hot buns. Not a very good choice, is it? I spent the last week watching soccer...never to be confused with football! Hope you had a happy celebration last night!
nonamedufus said…
Memories on the bleachers or under the bleachers?
nonamedufus said…
Soccer does not equal football. no way. Had a great celebration with a good crowd of family and friends. Thanks Malisa. Too bad you couldn't make it.
Mike said…
Now that's a loaded question ;)

Next year!
Great minds think alike!!! Those stands look so much better than the metal ones we sit in... they get COLD on your tush!
nonamedufus said…
Yep, exactly. I wonder why they call them bleachers. Ever wonder? Or "stands"? I mean, after all, they should probably call them "sits".

I just looked it up on Wikipedia. The name comes from the wood being bleached by the sun. How about that?

I'll hold you to it.
nonamedufus said…
Okay, I'll leave it at that.
Nora Blithe said…
Cool! I spent half of Saturday sitting on hard aluminum bleachers. These look much rommier than those.
nonamedufus said…
I hope the weather was warm. You wouldn't want to spend half a day freezing your tush off.
Nora Blithe said…
Yeah it's summer in Georgia. The problem was staying cool.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...

Hello Goodbye

Today a bit of a reflective piece. Rather than being funny, this is  about the funny. It's a day of mixed emotion at nonamedufus . You see, after several months of inactivity I've dropped a couple of former blogger buddies off my blog roll. I kept hanging on and hanging on hoping they'd return to active blogging but, alas, after waiting in one case five months I've decided to let them go. I'm going to miss - going to? I have been missing - Margo at the Screaming Me-Me . She was one funny lady. From time to time she and I would engage in a feud or two for several days at a time but it was all in fun both for us and, I think, for our readers. And we'd leave each other funny comments, poking fun at each other. I miss her friendship and our humorous exchanges. The other blogger I'm letting go is Chelle, The Offended Blogger . Chelle was a special lady. In addition to her own blog she created and managed Humor Bloggers Dot Com where humour bloggers like m...

The Dangling Conversation

There's a debate underway in my household between my wife and I. I say "underway" because it hasn't quite reached the "raging" stage. If you want raging, my wife (a Francophone) and I (an Anglophone) from time to time (usually in a weak moment of my own making) slip into our number one discussion around why we don't speak more French at home - ergo - when am I, a former public servant who learned French at the expense of our gracious taxpayers and was technically rated bilingual (even though I hardly used it), going to improve my use of Canada's other language? This one never gets resolved, hence it's ongoing nature. But the current debate is over a remark I casually made the other day. I'm no geek, but with a lot of time on my hands I surf the web, converse on Facebook and such and - I have to admit - "I'm nonamedufus and I'm a Twitterholic". In an epiphany-like moment I was struck by the apparent impact of social networkin...
