I Can Go From Zero To Cry in 60 Seconds

I don't know what the hell it is. Turning 60? Ten years of living with cancer? Ten years of living with cancer treatments? Whatever it is I've turned into such an emotional and sentimental guy.

That's right. I'm a big blubbering cry baby.

It happens mostly when I'm watching TV. The other night I was watching The Newsroom on HBO. (great show) We get to the last 5 minutes. The soundtrack swells playing "I'll Fix You" by Coldplay. (great song) And the news team swings into action to break into regular programming and carries off brilliant coverage of a breaking story. Right. But I can hardly see this because my eyes are brimming with tears. And this is the second time I've seen this episode!

You think that's bad? I've started to cry during commercials. You heard me. Used to be the crying was done on the other side of the screen like by that guy in the pic up there. A couple of months ago Accura came out with a commercial that simply made me a basket case each time it came on...

And lately Procter and Gamble has been running an ad that just tears me apart...

And lastly I came across a commercial on You Tube that exhausted my supply of Kleenex...

So there you have it. Not much funny about this post, eh? Well, except for my wife.

My wife?

Yeah, she thinks I'm hysterical.

As far as the increased crying, I think you can blame the "turning 60" as partially responsible. I am also turning 60 this year and have been looking at things very sentimentally.
But who wouldn't cry at that 3rd video??? I defy anyone of any age not to break down on that one.

I think it's age and partly the chemo drugs that toy with my emotions. That last one got me flowing, boy.

I was beginning to wonder if my heart had shrunk three sizes today... until the last commercial.

Yeah, that got me.

And there must be something in the air Dufus. Henry VIII made me cry recently.

*ha*

I have noticed that many men start to allow their emotions to flow more when they are over the age of 50. Which I actually find quite wonderful. And thank you for that son/dad commercial. I have never seen it before, and gosh, i am dealing with those tears now. You made my day with this wonderful post.

Darling John, both Alex and I cried this morning after Nicky and Max left. We both love them so much and realize it will be a while before we see them again. Every one of these videos made me cry. They would make a stone cry. It's not about being 60. It's about having a heart.

I've always been a big blubbering cry-baby. Does this mean that I'm only going to get worse with age?!? I'd better buy some Kleenex stock...

Aw... I cry over everything. Always have and probably always will, no matter my age. Now I know I'm in good company!

Yeah, I noticed the water works started to afflict me once I passed 50. Imagine. Crying over a commercial. Those ad agency guys are damn good.

Henry Viii? Yeah, that last commercial is a real tear-jerker.

You guys were great to take in Nicky and Max. I bet they had a wonderful time. And Nicky's a wonderful person. You can tell, like I can tell about you. I can understand why you were sad to say goodbye.

Will you give me a discount when you own Kleenex?

Well, thanks a bunch! Now I'm grabbing a tissue. There's nothing wrong with a show of emotion in men. More men should try it. It possibly is due to your ten year struggle. I think it would open up all sorts of emotions in a person.

I start crying all over again when I tell my wife all about crying during a show or commercial. Sheesh. Hey, I'm crying now.

I don't wear my heart on my sleeve. I wear it on my cheeks, I guess, Babs.

I was never much of a crier until I had kids and now whenever I see someone cry, I start blubbering like a fool. Or when someone writes a post about crying and posts the most heart-wrenching videos ever made. And I'm sitting outside where my neighbours can see me. Thanks a lot Dufus! :-)

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
