My Finny Valentine

There I was yesterday patiently waiting by the mailbox for Indigo Roth to send me my "I Survived 30 Minus 2 Days of Writing" challenge T-shirt. It didn't arrive. But what did arrive was a candy care package from that wicked Finnish wench Ziva. That's right. I got a surprise in the mail all the way from the distant shores of Finland.

I guess she wanted to send me a Valentine's present. Who knew Valentine's in Finland was March 12th? Ah, well, better late than never.

You'll recall I poked fun at Ziva and Nicky and their imaginary(?) up close and personal relationship during said challenge here and here.

Well it seems Ziva really got off on those posts...in a manner of speaking...and sent me a little gift to show her appreciation. Three little gifts actually. I have a little box of Leijona. A bag of Salmiakki. And another bag containing Tyrkisk Peber - The Original. Who knew there were imitations?

Of course I'm not the first to receive such a package. You can read about Nicky receiving hers here and of Michael Whitman-Jones receiving his here. The reviews are mixed between them. Once I work up the courage I'll have to try this Finnish candy. Speaking of Finnish candy, I don't know to who else my little Finnish candy Ziva sent this little package. The rest of the damn internet for all I know.

But it is the thought that counts. Even if that thought was an afterthought, Ziva.

Oh and she sent me a lovely card too with a cute little hand written note that alluded to inclusion of photographs of her and Nicky in compromising positions. But in a P.S. she told me she forgot to include them. She's such a tease...as Nicky rightly knows.

And me? I'll just have to use my imagination and make do with the candy.

One thing you can say about Ziva.
She's always there for her friend Nicky.

Next go round I am going to abuse Ziva at length so I can get my package of Finlandia candies.

Hey, it worked for me. Although I'll wait till I try these goodies before I decide whether or not they're a gift.

This is one of those "be careful what you wish for" moments, Dufus. You complained because you didn't get candy and now you've got candy. But, oh, the candy you got!! YUCK!!

Bon appetit!

You mean that picture up there is from after you ate the candy?

Congratulations.... I think.

Thanks. Something tells me they might best be left in the package than taken out. We'll see.

Congrats Dufus! And you'll have to tell us if the Finny Candy is any good.
heh heh

Cuz, I'm sure we'll all be googling how to order the stuff. heh heh

Oh, I'll tell you. I keep putting off the official tasting. It'll happen soon though. If you don't hear from me you'll know it didn't go well.

Dufus, my dear friend. you are one of a very select few that have ever received my candy. It takes a special kind of poking to get me to send you stuff, and you have what it takes. I hope you enjoy it. ;) Well, I hope you don't hate it too much.

Select few? So you're killing us off one by one? Just because I poked you?

Ooooh, Dufus... receiving that woman's candy. You will be the envy of many, I'm sure. How many? Who can tell. I guess that depends on how many people get to have that candy.

I do hope you'll post the taste test. Might it have the humor of Nicky's?

Still working up the courage to try these things out. But you can rest assured I'll post the results of my little taste test.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of poking it's going to take to get you to man up and try the stuff. Should I challenge your manhood? Sling puns? Oh wait! I've got it. If the sap ever begins to run and we get some fresh maple syrup, I'll send it your way to use a chaser. BOOM!

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...

I Am Charlie, I'm A Bore

Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Colin Farrel...you know the list, it goes on and on. The list of Hollywood hick-ups who not content to meltdown behind closed doors have to drag each and every detail out into the light of day and share it with all of us. Well, add Charlie Sheen to that luckless and lascivious list of losers. In the past few days he's been on every major media soapbox complaining abut how he's been treated and how he's misunderstood. Last night he spent an hour on ABC's 20/20 "in his own words". Charlie, you should have stuck to the script. "I have a highly evolved brain". You know I never did like that song by Helen Reddy in the 70s "I Am Woman". But I have to say the melody really leant itself well to a parody of Hollywood's latest flame-out, Charlie Sheen. Although I never thought I'd hear myself say this, my sincerest apologies to Helen Reddy. And now if you're ready (a little play on wor...
