30DW2-2 - Day 6: Haven

Okay, now this is gonna sound a little weird but for me my haven is the couch. Really. It's where I'm the most comfortable and where I spend a lot of my time.

I don't want to leave you with the impression that I never get up, go out or never go anywhere. I do. Sometimes. But when I do I always come back to the couch.

It's just my spot. My happy place, if you will.

I can watch TV from the couch. Listen to music. I'm surrounded by books. I'm steps from the kitchen and the bathroom.

To paraphrase Belinda Carlisle, "Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth? My haven is a place on earth."

And if I go downstairs to feed the cat or pay the bills when I'm done I have my own little stairway to haven.

And at night when my dear wife comes home from work and joins me on the couch for a snuggle and a little TV I whisper in her ear, "Thank haven, for little girls."

Sometimes, parts of a DVD or TV show will make me cry. I can't help it. From time to time I get emotional. On these occasions I have tears in haven.

That couch is so comfy no one will get me out of it. Nope. No matter how much they try knock, knock, knockin' on haven's door.

And for those of you who think I may never get to haven, haven's to betsy man, I'm already there.

Check out Nicky and Mike at We Work for Cheese for more havens.

Dufus, stop it. Punning is a war crime during a writing challenge, even under the Geneva Convention. And by the way, you're wrong; the lady's name was BELINDA HEAVEN, and the song was CARLISLE IS A PLACE ON EARTH. I'm just saying. Roth

Carlisle is indeed a place on earth, Indigo, including a place in England I see. You'll have to let me know if it's a safe haven.

Ah, the masterful dufus and the master Eric Clapton. Two of my favorites!

Good havens, LL, excellent pick. When I listen to that guy play I'm in haven.

Good havens, LL, good pick. When I listen to that man play I'm in haven.

Dear haven, dufus, you're on a roll today! And on the couch, I assume...
nonamedufus said…
Actually, I prefer bagels. But, yes, you're absolutely right about my locale. How'd you guess?
Linda R. said…
Ooh, this is really good. You do have a way with words. Thank Haven for our havens.

That couch looks havenly!

Thank Havens there weren't more puns in there. I do think your haven of a couch sounds havenly.
Jayne said…
I love this one, Dufus! So clever and funny.
nonamedufus said…
Now and then I have a good day. This was one of them.
nonamedufus said…
Actually it's a reasonable facsimile. But mine is very, very comfortable. My wife complains I spend so much time on it that it kind of dips in the middle. Imagine!
nonamedufus said…
You know I can't win. Some days people ask me where are the puns and now I'm being told I've overdone it. Haven's above.
nonamedufus said…
Thanks Jayne. I just started and kinda got on a roll (even though I prefer bagels.)

I think you're misbe-haven.
nonamedufus said…
Ooooooo. Good one. To think I overlooked it.

Fantastic! I love your couch haven!

That's how I feel about my purple paradise!

I took our my razor today, so I'm clean (s)haven.

Too much of a stretch?

Oh, dufus... you and your way of looking at things. Indeed, "haven" is a place on earth. ;)

For the record, the couch does, indeed, rule.
nonamedufus said…
I love it too. I almost feel myself melting into the cushions.
nonamedufus said…
Maybe. Although I've got to say I'm hungry all of a sudden. Just r-haven-ous.
nonamedufus said…
I wouldn't be haven it any other way. P.J.
Nicky said…
Tell the truth, you don't really leave your haven to go downstairs and feed the cat, do you? Sigh. I think you and Jepeto may have been cut from the same couch.
nonamedufus said…
Well, only when Mrs D is away for some reason...maybe once or twice a year. I'm liking the sound of this Jepeto fellow, by the way..
Ha ha you got me on the haven is a place on earth!!!!

Your haven sounds awesome!

Strange again...and I say again...I do NOT read these posts until after I've posted mine up. I thought I was going to be the only one with a "h_aven" idea. I thought I was brilliant. I thought I was witty. Apparently, I was just thinking like a dufus. ;)

Your mind never quits, does it? You always make me laugh...and groan a little. I mean that in a good way.

I don't think it's weird at all that your haven is the couch. It sounds like your particular setup is a truly happy place. You were killing me with the puns, by the way. They were so bad, but also so good.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, and that was just the first one.
nonamedufus said…
It's simply haven-ly.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, sure, you weren't brilliant. You were only on a level with dufus. Like, um, thanks, eh.
nonamedufus said…
Was it good for you, Malisa?
nonamedufus said…
Hey, it's what I do. The worse the best, right?
jannaverse said…
I was going to try to come up with some additional puns, but I'm haven a hard time thinking of any.
jannaverse said…
That sound you just heard was me groaning at myself.
Boom Boom Larew said…
Hey... I've been to your happy place! (Oops... that sounds bad, doesn't it.)
nonamedufus said…
You're one funny lady, Janna. Are you haven fun yet?
nonamedufus said…
Me, too. We could do a duet.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, my gawd, I'd completely forgotten. And I have photographic proof, too. I just can't seem to load it. Damn.

Hey, don't forget to stop by my caption contest - Pause, Ponder and Pun - and leave a caption. You might win exciting prizes. Well, no prizes really but significant web cred to have been awarded the I Be Hangin' With Dufus citation. Oh yeah, baby! Meanwhile on with today's post...

The debate on the positive versus negative impacts of social media networking continues, this time around the Catholic Church has waded in.

Me? In addition to having friends in the real world, I find such social media as Twitter, Facebook and my blog an interesting way to interact with new people across all social strata, age groups and geographic locations. Indeed, I think it's the technological equivalent of Walt Disney's philosophy: It's A Small World, After All. (I stress philosophy and not that annoying theme park song)

Couldn't watch it all, could you? But I digress...

I thought the Catholic Church ran out of feet to stand on a long time ago. But apparently it has as many feet…

Exercising My Rights (And My Lefts)

I confess, I'm not the most energetic of people. After all I'm a guy whose Facebook status reads "I'm not lazy. I'm just energy efficient". In fact, few people know but if you look up couch potato in the dictionary it has my picture.

At my house, we're so lazy even my cat is a couch potato.

But I've decided it's high time to do something about it. I've decided to undertake cross-country skiing. And, speaking of which, after our little session this morning, an undertake-r is something I could have really used. We're quite fortunate where we live. The ski trails are a five-minute walk (more exercise!). But miracle of miracles, I stayed upright the whole time. Putting the skis on was interesting.
"You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out..."
The trail itself was gorgeous, with hardly anyone else out at 9:30 in the morning. Which worked out fine for me. I didn't have to pull over to let faster skiers (read: everyone e…

Here's something unusual for an urban centre. In the heart of Canada's capital is a huge block of open land (400 hectares) called The Central Experimental Farm. It was established in 1886 (thats a long time for an "experiment") as the central research station for the federal Department of Agriculture. When I first entered the public service in the mid 80s (that's the 1990s) I worked at Agriculture in the Sir John Carling Building located on the farm.
