Keep Yelling Kids (They'll Stop)

On the weekend I posted about South of the Border and the billboards on the highway we encountered driving back to Canada from Florida. Located in Dillon, South Carolina, South of the Border started out almost 60 years ago as a beer stand. Over the years it steadily grew to become, you might say, the Kingdom of Kitsch.

I didn't take pictures of all the billboards through South Carolina on I-95. But I have found some others, from over the years, on Google Pics. Enjoy!

Other billboards included the following themes:

* Pedro's Weather Forecast: Chili today, hot tamale.
* Keep America Green! Bring Money!
* Keep yelling, kids! (They'll stop.)
* Sommtheeng Deeferent
* Honeymoon Suites: Heir Conditioned
* Fort Pedro, Fireworks Capital of the US
* Etymologically Correck!
* Howdy, Pardner!
* Top Banana!
* Pedro's fireworks! Does yours?

Can you believe this place? I grew up driving past it and it was the highlight of I 95 travel. BUT, my parents refused to ever stop there - mom made it sound like disease was ievitable - then when I was old enough to stop there on my own I'd been programmed to think that it wasn't the healthy thing to do. Part of me kind of misses that we never go by it any more because of all the new paved roads we have here in SC :) Little known fact: Ben Bernake used to work there.

I love roadside Americana. I've always dreamed of having my own roadside attraction. One of my favorites is Wall Drug in South Dakota. Like South of the Border, there are the signs that remind you every 30 miles or so along a 350 mile stretch.

Great photos!

Me-Me: You've inspired me to do a Canada's Roadside Attraction post. Hey Canada can do kitsch with the best of them!

Mary: Yeah, who knew tacky could be so terrific!

A little off topic, Guys... I have a question. Two days ago I played around this site:
- Xbox tournaments for money
They say you can play online EA sports game tournaments on any console for cash... had anyone tried that before? Looks like a cool idea...
Are there any other sites where you can play sports games for real moneys? I Googled and found only and but it looks these guys don't specialize in sport gamez. Any suggestions?

Paroxysm Paradox

The weather was unseasonably warm for October. The sun set around 6:30 but the daylight hours were quite enjoyable. So thought Richard, as he set out for his daily walk in the woods. He marvelled at the turning leaves which exhibited an explosion of colour more significant with each passing day.

But Richard knew the turning leaves would soon start to fall. And the trees would soon be bare with no leaves at all. And then the snow would fly and fall from the trees as the leaves had before it.

Richard couldn't help but think of the sudden change to come as a seizure of sorts. And he wasn't looking forward to it. After all, who would welcome a seizure, he thought, as he rolled uncontrollably among the leaves.

This week paroxysm/seizure was the prompt at Two Word Tuesday.

Times Are So Tough...
