30 Days of Photos - Day 10 - Close Up

Do you know what type of plant this is? It's a variegated something or other. It was in the front garden. And it's a close up. (Not of a cat.) Skip on over to Ziva's where she's still big; it's the pictures that got small.

30 Days of Photos - Day 9 - Disguise

We're into Week #2 of 30 Days of Photos IV, or as Ziva likes to refer to it "Bob".  Did you know BOB backwards is the same as BOB frontwards? Yeah, it's a palindrome. Just thought I'd point that out. Today's theme is disguise and after getting through week #1 I think I'm gonna start wearing one. As I paddle in my kayak. Hey, I'm on the level here. Pop on over to Madam Ziva's and see who else is wearing a disguise today.

30 Days of Photos - Day 8 - Texture

Two eggs over-easy with sausage, rye toast, coffee and a large orange juice. Once a week or so I'll make the trek to the neighbourhood restaurant, Dinty's, for breakfast. This is usually what I'll have. I'll carry along my iPad and read the latest e-book I'm into. When I took this picture last week it was MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood. I switch it up once and awhile and have an omelette or eggs benedict but I'm such a regular the waitress whose section I always sit in brings me my coffee and large orange juice without even asking. Look at the texture of the items on that plate, the eggs in particular. It almost looks too good to eat. But I did. Don't forget to drop by Ziva's infernal blog to hook up with the rest of the insane people taking part in this challenge. Texture? Really?

30 Days of Photos IV - Day 7 - Seven

Well, we've made it through the first week of the challenge. Only 23 more days to go. I'm celebrating. Or drowning my sorrows. At this point - after 7 beers - I don't really care. And I'm sure dear Ziva has some fabulous photographic representation to demonstrate seven. I eight when that happens. Count yourself lucky that Ziva and her infernal blog will direct you to the rest of the photographers.

30 Days of Photos - Day 6 - 2 Birds, 1 Stone

These 2 birds, Canada Geese, were hanging out on the fairway at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club. I came close to killing two birds with one golf ball. The stone was on another hole, a par three. It was one of many stones lining the water I had to hit over to reach the green. I put everything I had into my drive. It flew over the water towards the pin. As the ball came down it hit one of the huge stones lining the water trap. And I lost it, thinking it fell back into the water. I reached the green and there it was. About 2 yards from the hole. I putted and sank that sucker. A Birdie! So I guess you could say with two strokes I got one birdie! Fly on over to Ziva's Inferno and check out the rest of today's pics.

30 Days of Photos - Day 5 - Mushroom

I love mushrooms. In a salad. On a burger. On a steak. In my soup. Raw. I've never had a magic mushroom. And yet I'd term mushrooms on my dinner plate magical. I buy my mushrooms at the store. I never eat mushrooms I find growing in the yard. And what's the smallest room in my house? A mush room. If you wanna be a fungi (heh, heh) pop on over to Ziva's place and see what other photos have sprouted up today.

30 Days of Photos - Day 4 - Backwards

This is a picture of my SUV going backwards.  The time was about 8:30pm. The place was my driveway. I had Mrs D put her foot on the brake and shift it into reverse. She did exactly as I said. Good thing. She had an excellent opportunity. Get yourself in gear and drive on over to Miss Ziva's for the rest of today's photos.

Bibliofile - August

Well, nine books in August took me to the dizzying heights of 78 books that I've read this year. I seem to be on a pace of about 2-3 books a week. It was an interesting month with much variety and included older books as well as recently released works. Among my highlights were Roddy Doyle's 1987 The Commitments about a fellow who manages a soul/R&B cover band (you may remember the movie - and the great soundtrack) and the recently released - and hilarious - sequel The Guts that looks in on the guy many years later as he struggles with bowel cancer and is now in the business of managing former one-hit-wonder punk bands. Half-Blood Blues was an exquisite novel by Canadian author Esi Edugyan about black musicians in World War II Germany and France and about the racism they encounter during that period. An excellent tale. I read another R.J. Ellory novel this month. A Simple Act of Violence is the latest in a series of excellent, well written pieces of suspense that...

30 Days of Photos - Day 3 - Soft

Caught in a breezeless pause I stand erect, and quite soft There's a noise that gets louder And it's not that far off Damn, it's the lawnmower passing by And I'm scattered to the skies, aloft Dritt on over to  Ziva's blog  to see how soft everyone else is today.

30 Days of Photos - Day 2 - Illuminate

This is one of the outbuildings at the Mission Hill Winery in Westbank, British Columbia. We visited the winery when we were in Kelowna last month. I thought the structure was neat and I really liked how the sun illuminated the shade, sort of intruding. Mission Hill is a very up-scale and popular site with tours and tasting. We skipped the tour and went straight to the tasting. Rise and shine and scoot on over to  Ziva's blog to see how everyone else portrayed today's theme.

30 Days of Photos IV - Day 1 - Ice Cream

This is the freezer at the nearby WalMart. I don't shop there. I just use the store for photo challenges. I learned from Wikipedia that as an ice cream-loving society, we're rather boring. The favourite flavours of ice cream are chocolate and vanilla. I guess that's why my Mom always got mad at us as kids. She'd buy neapolitan ice cream and we'd never eat the strawberry flavoured one. Ziva's coordinating the link thingy where you can drop by and see what the other poor souls are posting today.

Photo Blogging Challenge - August

Well it's the end of the month and time to participate in P.J.'s monthly photo challenge . The prompt for August is "summer".  For the most part we've had a gorgeous summer, here, in south-western Quebec. As a result we spent lots of time out on the deck and in the pool. In August we travelled to Kelowna, British Columbia where we visited with Mrs. Dufus's mother, brother and nephew. Kelowna is a beautiful spot known primarily for it's tourism, vineyards and golf. We had a great time enjoying BBQs, my brother-in-law's pool, several games of golf, boating and visiting a couple of wineries. Here are some Kelowna summer pics... A view of Lake Okanagan and the mountains beyond from my brother-in-law's side yard. The 5th tee at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club The 10th tee at the KGCC My nephew getting a good view from his dad's boat on Lake Okanagan The vineyard at Mission Hill Winery And that wraps up this chall...

I Think I'm a Masochist

"You've got to be kidding? Not again?" "Yep," said Zippity Doo-Dah Ziva and Denver Dude MikeWJ , "again...and if you don't participate we'll tell everyone about the time you..." "I'm in, I'm in," I blurted. "Just as long as you don't tell people about the time I..." But then you'll never know. Unless I talk in my sleep. But even then you'd have to sleep with me to find out. Hey wait a minute... Although it could get a little crowded under the covers. Unless, of course, Ziva brought her whip for crowd control purposes. Again? Yes, again. Not the whip. The camera. Ziva and Mike have launched 30 Days of Photos IV on an unsuspecting group of bloggers. You remember III last October? And II last April? Well, now it's time for IV, starting September 1. Don't ask about I. That's part of what you'll never know. Nope. Not from me. Why do I do things like this? I think I enjoy self-...
