Photo Blogging Challenge - August

Well it's the end of the month and time to participate in P.J.'s monthly photo challenge. The prompt for August is "summer".  For the most part we've had a gorgeous summer, here, in south-western Quebec. As a result we spent lots of time out on the deck and in the pool.

In August we travelled to Kelowna, British Columbia where we visited with Mrs. Dufus's mother, brother and nephew. Kelowna is a beautiful spot known primarily for it's tourism, vineyards and golf. We had a great time enjoying BBQs, my brother-in-law's pool, several games of golf, boating and visiting a couple of wineries. Here are some Kelowna summer pics...

A view of Lake Okanagan and the mountains beyond from my brother-in-law's side yard.

The 10th tee at the KGCC

The vineyard at Mission Hill Winery

And that wraps up this challenge. Visit P.J.'s link at the top of this post to see how others are spending their summer.

And note this. Sunday we start the 4th in a series of 30 Days of Photos hosted by Ziva Moon and MikeWJ, the gruesome twosome. Wait till you see the prompts for this little exercise. I have and yet I still agreed to participate. Fun? Barely. My small comfort is there'll be other bloggers to share in the pain of this 30 day challenge.

The course was gorgeous. Hard to concentrate on the golf when the scenery is so spectacular, Debra.

British Columbia is simply gorgeous. And the interior, around Kelowna, is simply lovely. It was a very relaxing 10 days we spent there.

I haven't played much golf this year either, Meleah. But my brother-in-law belongs to the Kelowna Golf and Country Club so while I was there I played every second day. Lots of fun.

The scenery in your shots is gorgeous! I think I could spend all day on that deck looking at that landscape.

Some days I did just that, with a Corona or two.

They're not lying when they say that BC is photogenic. Great pics, Dufus.

Nothing like a little golf, wine and a boat, eh? Hey wait... are you from Caddyshack?

Thanks, Mike. The surroundings were amazing. They don't call it beautiful British Columbia for nothing.

Ha, no. I didn't have to contend with a gopher.

Looks like you hit all the highlights of a summer vacation in the Okanagan - wine, water and golf! I grew up in the Okanagan Valley, a little further south and spent my summers sailing and eating fresh fruit. Hope you enjoyed some tasty orchard produce, too.

It's a gorgeous part of the country, isn't it? We had a great time.

Sunday Funnies

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
