7 degrees and sunny. Not exactly a scorcher but we'll take what we can get. The weather inspired me to get out and walk through the neighbourhood. Here's some pics of a brook that meanders near our house... Unfortunately, not everything made it through the winter...

On the Quebec side of the Ottawa River they've extended the Boulevard des Allumettieres (the old McConnell-Laramée boulevard/boulevard de l'Outaouais) so that it's possible for us to travel from Aylmer to the Interprovincial Bridge and over the river to Ottawa. We often return home along this route when we've been to the Byward Market for lunch or dinner. There's one disconcerting feature associated with this roadway - a series of 4 "rond-points" or roundabouts (I guess that would make for 4 disconcerting features). Maryse and I always comment on how dangerous these roundabouts are, each one an intersection of 2 crossing streets. The problem is twofold: a) a distinct lack of respect for who has the right of way, and b) unexpected right turns from drivers in the inside left lane. You really are taking your life in your hands as you navigate through a "rond-point" and one has to drive very defensively. We travelled this route last night after dinne...

Philippe and Laurel were in town this weekend and we spent a gorgeous morning at the Ti-Mousse sugar bush in Papineauville. An all-you-can-eat breakfast was on tap which included ham, potatoes, eggs, home-made preserves, "oreilles-de-christ" and , of course, pancakes and maple syrup. There appeared to be some mixed reactions over breakfast. Some seemed more excited than others... There was an interesting collection of antique wood-cutting implements in the room where the maple sap is boiled... And you don't go to the sugar bush without trying some "tire sur la neige"... With all the doctors' appointments on the horizon my dance card's getting pretty full. Saw Dr. Boisvert, my kidney specialist, yesterday. He's quite happy overall with my recent test results, save my cholesterol (around 5) and my high blood pressure. He's upped the dosage of my blood pressure medication and prescribed Crestor for the cholesterol. In mid-April he's going to have me do a 24 hour blood pressure monitoring session. Meanwhile, I'm back to see Dr Granger, my GP next Tuesday, and the following day I have an appointment with endocronoligist Dr Lochman at the Riverside Hospital. Well, we got somewhere in the area of an additional 36-38cm of snow last night. The ski operators must be doing well these days! We went to Megan's for dinner last night. The drive was somewhat trecherous, more so on the way out than on the way back because while we were there the plows had a chance to do their thing. Below is what we arrived home to see...
