30DW2-2 Day 13: Unintended

Lucky 13.

Still 15 days to go.

Damn it to hell I don't know if I'm going to make it.

When Nicky invited my to participate in this little exercise my answer was purely unintended.

I meant to say no.

No thank you, Nicky.

I'm burned out, Nicky.

I'm wasted.

I haven't got any ideas.

I haven't got any energy.

I'm dead.

I'm still recovering from Ziva's infernal 30 Damn Days of Photographs.

I've just had pneumonia and spent 5 days in the hospital.

Leave me alone.

But you guys know Nicky.

Just how does one say "no" to Nicky?

So I said yes.

And that was unintended.

So away we went.

Cheesy.

Hold On.

And the next thing I knew I was in the flow of things. I wrote a couple of posts several days in advance and I was off.

Keeping pace.

Coming up with posts for the prompts.

And that was unintended.

Look at me now, ma.

No hands.

Well something like that.

Who knew that I'd actually be thanking Nicky (and Mike) for getting me going again.

For making me think.

For making me write.

That was unintended.

Be sure and wander over to We Work For Limburger Cheese Spread where Nicky hangs out and see what everyone else intended to write about unintended today.

Whew! I was afraid that you were going to say that you were quitting this writing marathon. Instead, you ended up being nice and thanking the cheesy duo. What a man.

Dufus, old son, this is my favourite piece of yours so far. Perhaps ever. Oh, of course I loved that other one you're so rightfully proud of (he says vaguely), but this one was perfect for me. Thanks. Indigo

Yeah, I know. It's rare. But once in a while I can be pretty nice guy.
nonamedufus said…
Oh yeah, that, um, other one, right. I'm glad you enjoyed me getting a nasty word in about Nicky and Ziva in the same post.

This too is going on my favorites list - the last sentence said it all ~

I hope that you didn't swell their heads too much! This is a great post, duf! I applaud you!

It did end on a positive note, didn't it. That was purely unintended.
nonamedufus said…
I hope so too. They might explode.

Another great post. I can't imagine you wouldn't say yes. You are very good at these challenges.
nonamedufus said…
Maybe, but I need a good swift kick in the behind to get going.

I am so glad you are back in the saddle. You sounded a little bit like the guy in the Blues Brothers explaining why he wasn't at the church to marry that girl, but in your case, all of the excuses were true!

By participating in something you never intended to, you gained something you didn't expect. Good for you.

We're coming up on the half way mark. I hope I make it to the end. And then we'll see...
nonamedufus said…
I think I followed that. Yes, thanks.

You're the most punintentional person I know. Just sayin'....

Admit it, though, dufus, 30 Damn Days of Photographs was one helluva ride. You loved every damn second of it. ;)

I'm glad glad Nicky and Mike got you writing again, though, the internet is not the same without you.
nonamedufus said…
I know. But gosh it's hard work sometimes.
nonamedufus said…
It was one helluva ride, yeah, until I crashed and burned on day 31. No, seriously, I loved it. And your comment is very sweet. Thanks.

What? Excuuuuuse me?! That's Ziva's and MIkeWJ's 30 Days of Photographs, I'll have you know.

Please don't thank her, NoName. She doesn't need to be encouraged.
What a great post. I especially loved, "Look at me now, ma. No hands." This IS hard... and you have rocked it!
nonamedufus said…
Of course it was. That's right. And that's why I loved every second of it.
nonamedufus said…
I was just being polite, Mike.
nonamedufus said…
This is very hard. I look at these prompts and go "WTF?" I'm going to be a nervous wreck before this is done.

As much as I'd like to begrudge Nicky and Mike for unleashing this challenge on us, I have to say the daily deadlines have done wonders for my writing. Prior to this February, I was lying dead in a creative ditch. Now I feel my writer's mojo come back, and it feels pretty good. I just wish I had the discipline like you, Dufus, to queue up my entries several days in advance.

Man, who knew that I'd be thanking Nicky too for coming up with this insane idea. Glad you're enjoying it, Dufus :D

You are so unintended that you've become intended. Who knew?
nonamedufus said…
Yeah, I hate to admit it but this challenge has got the creative juices flowing. I have to do several posts in advance. If I waited until the "day of" I'd blow it.
nonamedufus said…
Did you just avoid being blamed for this little challenge? But I was heaping credit your way.
nonamedufus said…
I intended it that way.
meleahrebeccah said…
Well, I think you're doing a great job keeping up with all of these writing challenges! Even though you never intended to agree to this!

* I'm doing my best to catch up with all of you!
nonamedufus said…
I was totally lacking for ideas last month. It's amazing how creative you can be when you're forced to follow prompts every day. And some of these are very hard.
Nicky said…
How does one say no to Nicky? Why would one even bother, Dufus? :-)
I'm glad you decided to take the path of least resistance, mon ami. And I'm happy it's actually helped you find your mojo again.
nonamedufus said…
Did I say mojo? What I meant was mojito. I found my mojito in the back of the fridge. Must have been a typo. I find the more mojitos I have the easier it is to write. So, yeah, I'm glad I found my mojito.
Cadeaux said…
If I had one of these contests - I'd have to pretend I AM Nicky in order to get anyone to play! Dammit!
nonamedufus said…
Oh, I don't think so, Mariann. Besides, you'd have to speak French if you pretended to be Nicky.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
