Lies and the Lying Bloggers Who Tell Them

There's a saying that goes, "When I was a little boy, they called me a liar, but now that I am grown up, they call me a writer." Leeuna, a very funny blogger at My Mind Wandered - and it never came back , and regular commenter here at nonamedufus has given me an award that reflects that saying.  Look at what it's called: I don't know who the heck Lesa is.  I guess she started the award.  And she must have dreamed up the meme that goes with it.  Thanks.  I like memes about as much as a coffee enema. It goes like this: - thank the person who gave you the award - copy the logo and place it on your blog - link to the person who nominated you - tell up to six outrageous lies about yourself and at least one outrageous truth, or vice-versa - nominate seven "creative" writers - post links to the blogs you nominate - leave a comment on each blog letting them know they've won the award Here are the lies/truths: 1. I once participated in the ...

Early Spring, Late Treatment and Ten Years On

Around here we may still have a couple of weeks to go before spring officially arrives but for all intents and purposes it's here.  We've got double-digit temperatures, people in short sleeves, outdoor beer pubs, the skating rink on the canal closed down, and with our days filled with glowing sunshine, the snow is melting faster than water down a drain.  That's the good news. The not so good news is it feels like forever waiting for my radiation appointments.  Last week I spent some time at the hospital for tests and bloodwork.  I had a pulmonary session - blowing into a tube with graphs catching my lung strength on a computer - an EKG and a heart scan - an ultrasound, which was kinda cool.  Yesterday I was back again for a bone scan.  But still no word on a date for my radiation sessions, followed by my bone marrow transplant. By way of reminder, I have multiple myeloma, a kind of cancer that affects the bone marrow and the blood.  If you want a r...

Don't Turn Around, You're Being Followed

Easy, easy, yes you're seeing double.  On Sunday, although I didn't learn till Tuesday, bloggin' buddy Cat Lady bestowed the Best Follower Award upon nonamedufus .  On Tuesday, wouldn't you know another bloggin' buddy - Quirkyloon - awarded me the same psuedo pstatuette.  Now either this means they really admire me, my blog and the comments I leave on their posts OR our bloggin' circle of influence is seriously shrinking.  I prefer to believe the former regardless of how true the latter might tend to be. So thanks, guys, that was really nice of you and I deeply appreciate it.  Imagine, not one but two of the same awards in the same week. What?  The questions?  What questions?  To paraphrase my favourite movie line, from Treasure of the Sierra Madre , "I don't have to show you any stinkin' questions".  Oh...I do?  I was actually hoping you guys would forget.  Hell I had to answer less questions on my last tax form last yea...

The 7 Deadly Memes

Wee Winky Twinky -I wonder if she's related to Wee Willie Winkie - last week got this award thingy...the Premiere Meme Award or some such thing. To keep it she had to share with folks her 7 innermoist thoughts - did I say that? Musta been thinking about something else - 7 i-n-n-e-r-m-o-s-t thoughts and then pick 7 bloggers to whom she would pass the award - and the meme. Bloggers - like me - are of two minds about these things. They enjoy the recognition of their colleagues and the bit of a bump in traffic it might bring but they hate talking about themselves and they hate passing these things on to their blogging buddies. Having said that, one of Winky's picks was me! So Winky, thanks - I think. So given the sensitivity of some bloggers - who shall remain nonameless - here's what I propose to do. I'll take the award (well, hey, wouldn't you?) but here's how I'll handle the 7+7. First, I propose to share my 7 innermost thoughts...about celebrities on Twitt...

And They All Lived Happily Ever After

A couple of weeks back I participated in a story meme created by several members of Humor Bloggers Dot Com. Remember Wanda, Jackee and the dinosaur dick? (Got your attention?) You know what? The meme is now complete. That's right after all it's tantalizing twists and turns it's completed, concluded, done, down, ended, finished, over, terminated, through, up, accomplished, achieved, attained, compassed, realized; dead, defunct, extinct, obsolete; expired - well, you kinda get the idea. Hawaiian Pun at Write in the Kisser brought the whole cockamamie thing to a crashing conclusion. If you want you read the whole piece (and I use that word advisedly) from start to finish wander over to his site. You won't regret it. Well you might, but...

A Humor Bloggers Dot Com Story Meme

Those hopeless humour hacks at Humor Bloggers Dot Com are at it again. This time around they’ve recruited members to participate in a story meme where one member starts us off and successive members continue the story. The tale has taken some interesting twists and turns along the way. See for yourself... (Mind of Spaz) Wanda was always confused. Not about work, because she loved what she was doing. Not about her friends or her hobbies, because her social life was great. It wasn't her looks either, because she was tall, lean and had an absolutely perfect rack, the best money could buy. No, Wanda was confused because she has a penis. (The Shark Tank) It had come wrapped in several layers of newspaper, stuffed into a tube typically reserved for delivering posters. It wasn't just any penis, either. Judging from its length (11.2 inches), scent (formaldahyde and tree sap), and coloring (burnt sienna), it had belonged to T. horridus and dated back to the late Cretaceous. In layman...
