Happy, Happy

It's a new year, it's a new decade.  How did you ring it in last night?  A quiet evening at home with a loved one?  Out bar-hopping until the big countdown at midnight?

Ten years ago, actor/comedian Jim Carrey rang in 2000 in a special way.  Curious?  If you found your celebration lacking somewhat last night in the enthusiasm department, you may enjoy this.  Oh...and Happy New Year!

May you approach the coming year with as much enthusiasm as Jim Carrey!

I was so depressed about not being invited to your party, I just went to bed!

CatLady: And may you CL. Happy new year.

tfy: But of course you were invited. Too bad you didn't make it. Joel K was the life of the party. What a mad man.
That picture of the guy with drug induced euphoria playing the concertina reminds me I should really get out the old concertina and practice a bit... maybe I could get something together in time for Jules' next Out of Tune Tuesday celebration.

P.S. I would have been the life of the party, had I only found your house last night. Gave up around 9 and went home to bed.

CatLady: Gee, the place was rockin' so much I hadn't noticed. Must be why we had so much DDP left over. Then, who was that woman Joel was all over?

Isn't he still alive? Jim Carrey I mean. It's a wonder. Mine was good. Fun. Not many drunks. Only a few loud people with little fireworks. Quite frankly, it was boring come to think of it.

Don: He's still alive. It's just his career that's dead.
Actually I saw Yes Man recently, and it was pretty good. So there. :P

Anyhow, that part about "A quiet evening at home with a loved one?" Yep, that was the missus and me with a bottle of Red Cat wine (still three quarters of it left, we're lightweights, what can we say?).

Hope your New Year is filled with drunken buffoonery. Okay, not really, but just thought I'd say that...happy New Year, you Canadian dufus. :)

I watched Kathy Griffin humiliate Anderson Cooper till 9:00 (California time) Then the ball dropped and so did I. Hey -- when it's midnight in NYC, that's good enough for me.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
