Photo Blogging Challenge - August

I don't know how he does it or just what inspires him but P.J. over at a 'lilhoohaa runs a monthly  photo challenge and always comes up with interesting prompts to guide us through our 5 favourite photos of the month.

August's theme is colorful (he's American, eh). A month too soon to capture the fall's turning leaves so what the heck can be colourful/colorful in August.

Well, I went golfing with my brother Whitey and the language was colourful.

I hosted #lostmyliverpalooza in August attended by bloggers Cheryl Duford - no slouch when it comes to photography - and Paula Larew Wooters, and her dog Henry. Paula has good posture. She's no slouch either. Look at Cheryl's colourful Jeff Gordon NASCAR jacket. I had to wear sunglasses near her.

Mrs D prepared a colourful breakfast for my blogger friends of bacon, eggs, cheese and fruit. Nice, eh?

Here's Paula sporting her colourful "caution" socks. She provided all of us with a pair. Again I needed sunglasses.

At the end of July I took my nephew to the nearby War museum. Here's a colourful recruitment poster from World War I. I know, I know I said July but it was the 30th, which was 30 days ago so technically I'm safe. Right, P.J.?

And that pretty much sums up my August in photos. Click on P.J.'s link above to see what the other participants came up with.

I think we should dress in some of those Royal Canadian uniforms at next year's #lostmyliverpalooza2.
They're so colourful, eh? *quickly hides her US passport*

Bahahahahaha! I think we'd all look fabulous in those uniforms. I haven't put my passport back in the safe deposit box yet so I may just head up for fall with my RED JG jacket to show John just what colorful really looks like.

Thanks for sharing that picture twice because the insane look on my face really captures my essence.
Ha! I'll keep my passport handy so I can get a look at that new jacket, too!

Two words: you're lost.
nonamedufus said…
Well as long as we can wear those yellow sox with them.

You'll blend right in with the leaves in the Gatineau Hills.

You should get one, Paula.
Next time Cheryl has to bring enough NASCAR jackets for all of us to wear one. (Which will ensure that it will be 90 degrees and sunny.)
Oh, I'm looking for even more colourful socks for us for next year. The more garish, the better.

Am I to understand you're throwing caution to the wind?

I always new a lot of colourful characters take up geocaching. Your photos and the resulting comments are ample confirmation!

Yes I was--lost in concentration.

I only have 2 so someone's SOL. I do have a couple of tank tops but they're nowhere near as colorful. Oh wait, I think I also have a shit-ton of really garish t-shirts I won playing games on JG Network. I'll just pack ALL of my JG gear and we'll have a NASCARpalooza!

I must say, your first photo and description took me by surprise and got an actual guffaw of a laugh out of me. I've golfed once, and I have no doubt that the language on a golf course is frequently colorful.

Ooh, ahh, good job for August. That breakfast looks tasty. What? No liver on the menu?

Geocaching, eh? You never know.

Thanks, Mike. Appreciate it.

Thanks, Babs. The language got more colourful as we progressed.
I grinned ear to ear looking at all these. Of course you set me off immediately with the colorful language! The jacket.. the socks... it's all PERFECT!
nonamedufus said…
Thank you ma'am. You think the language of my brother is colourful? you should hear my son go at it when he golfs.

And you said there was nothing colorful? Looks colorful to me! And where was my invite for this blogger get together? Didn't think I could get across the border?

Don't worry P.J. This was just the first annual #lostmyliverpalooza. You're first on the list for next year's get together.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
