You know I wasn't going to write a post today. I was going to take the day off and and run last year's Thanksgiving day post. Then I realized I did that last year and this would have been the third year in a row I'd run that bloody thing. By now I think you would have been tired of hearing about Martin Frobisher's role in Canadian Thanksgiving.
So how's this? I'll share with you some of the things I'm thankful for.
Obvious but not taken for granted:
Loving wife. Check.
Great kids. Check.
Fabulous grandkids. Check.
Good friends. Check.
Oh, and my brothers Whitey and A Touch of Grey for getting together for a great weekend of golf and a wee bit of libation.
Not so obvious but taken for granted:
Mexicans and their beer. (See last entry above.)
Cancellation of The Playboy Club after three episodes. Check.
The return of Empire Boardwalk on HBO. Check.
The new John Hiatt and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings CDs. Check.
Totally unexpected:
Fellow bloggers, such as:
Bahama Mama 00dozo's uncanny ability to avoid tropical storms.
Nicky from Nicky & Mike's We Work For Cheese for all the fun we had dissing each other recently in the Tribal Blogs Extreme Blog Makeover Contest a few weeks back. We both lost...but in grand style.
Michael Whiteman-Jones - the Will Rogers of our generation - from Too Many Mornings for his friendship and sense of humour, his extremely well written but far too infrequent blog posts, and for engaging with me in our hit-and-run comment thread hijackings over on Facebook.
Jennifer Brown, owner of Tribal Blogs, who has created a great place for bloggers to hang out.
Fellow cancer survivor Quirkyloon's ongoing good health and good humour.
The ability of Unfinished Person to laugh along with his fellow Fantasy Football managers when they kid about him not having a TV on which to watch NFL games. One colleague indicated he relied on smoke signals to obtain game developments.
And there are others, far too many to mention. Just check out my Blog Roll.
And you, my faithful blog readers, commenters and visitors.
So these are some of the things - a bit of a mixed bag - for which I give thanks today.
Oh, yes. Let's not forget that huge turkey dinner and last but not least the guy who invented those pants with the expandable waist band.
Happy Thanksgiving!

It goes without saying that I'm thankful for ye too! *smile*
And your blog.
It's always a fun read. ALWAYS.
So thank-you Dufus for sharing your humor or is that humour (you Canadians...so weird heh heh) with us.
Happy Thanksgiving Dufus!
Thanks, dufus! I am honoured. And I am grateful that you were around when I first started my blog.
What was originally "Columbus Day" here was renamed, "Discovery Day" and - unbeknownst to me up until minutes ago - is now named, "National Heroes' Day", falls on the 12th of October and is a national holiday. Officially, the date remains the 12th, but the government has pushed the holiday to Friday this year to make it a long weekend. So, I guess it can be considered the Bahamian thanksgiving.
As for the turkey, I don't particularly care for it but me moms loves it, so I have to make it once a year. Do you know how hard it is to find a turkey small enough for two people??
;-)
