Photo Blogging Challenge - October

I think our good friend P.J. over at a 'lilhoohaa must have run out of topics because he told participants in October's challenge that the theme was Photographer's Choice.  Fine by me. And so I've got a somewhat eclectic collection of photos to share.

In late September my wife and I took a little long weekend getaway to Mont-Tremblant. Some of you may know already that I march to the sound of a different drum. Given that, I went and bought one at an antique store for my music room.

We spent the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in Bath, Ontario near Kingston at my brother's place. Here's a snap of the nearby Loyalist Golf Course. Isn't it gorgeous?

My brother's wife cooked a delicious turkey dinner for about 20 people. But before the company arrived my brother and I engaged in one of our favourite activities when we get together...snacking on devilled eggs. There weren't many left for the rest of the family.

Mrs. D and I took the long way home from Bath travelling the back roads back to Aylmer, Quebec and enjoyed the scenery on a sunny fall day. It took us twice as long but, hey, it was fun and relaxing. You often see things you wouldn't see on the big highways. Like this bridge into Ottawa.

We've had the odd warm day in late October. Here's a pic that demonstrates my way of enjoying them.

Anyone want to join me?

We had some odd, warm October days as well....well into the 80F range! And I can certainly see that "someone" loves deviled eggs! I know this because I resemble that remark! Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, man, those devilled eggs are a tradition among me and my brothers. It goes back to the days as kids when our mom would make them and we'd sneak them from the plate in the fridge trying to rearrange them on the plate so mom wouldn't know. Kinda hard to rearrange a plate of only three devilled eggs.

I love your St. Matthews drum. And the hot tub looks pretty nice, too.

Thanks, Mike. I think that drum is pretty cool. And, yes, the hot tub is, well, hot. It's not quite the pool we gave up in our last house but it'll do.

I love deviled eggs. Evil Twin said she loves them more than me. Pfffft. Anyway, they looked tasty. The drum looks perfect. As for the golf course, I think I would be too distracted by the scenery to actually make contact with the ball!

Regarding the golf game we played very quickly so we could get home to those devilled eggs before company arrived.

Deviled Eggs don't last long around me, that's for sure. I love the plate! Thanks for sharing.

I get very egg-cited over devilled eggs. I'm glad you're en-snared by the drum.
You and I are two peas in a pod... you get that crazy warm October day and you submerge yourself in water outside. My mother and i broke our family record this month by swimming in the ocean Oct 25... we have never been in that late. And it was a BLESSING!

Your pictures are so wonderful and your adventures are even wonderfuler. I just made up that word because it really fits.

The egg dish is actually my favorite shot... a good story and really pretty colors. :)

You and your mother are brave souls to jump into the Atlantic this time of year, Katherine. But the last week ofSeptember my wife and I went swimming in an outdoor hotel pool in Mont-Tremblant. Heated, of course.

Isn't that drum neat? That's my favourite room in the house!

I think I'd love to be in your music room just to peruse all of those albums, both CD and LP varieties. I love looking at old album cover designs. Nice shot.

C'mon over. I'll give you the tour.

Love that old drum, Dufus! That is really cool stuff. And I will agree on longer trips home. They can be fun. You should discover geocaching. That will take you ALL over. :) And the deviled eggs... yum!

That drum has quickly become a prized possession P.J.

We just inherited our hot tun when we moved in July. I'm gonna keep it running through the winter. We'll see how that goes. Re: that music room, it's my favourite room in the house and there's always something new I'm adding to it much to my wife's constant amazement.

Sunday Funnies

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D
