Photo Blogging Challenge - May

The prompt this month was night. I pocketed my trusty iPhone camera and headed off into the darkness. I didn't have to go far. The first thing I came across were the lamps on our deck. Almost tripped right over them. Maybe it was the couple of pints of Corona.

Next was the car in the driveway. This was too easy.

A week or so later we went out for dinner to one of our favourite weekly spots, Hino's in Ottawa. Terry Hino does Japanese and when we go we sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen and chat with chef Terry. This is the view across the street from Hino's at dusk...

It rained on our way home as we crossed the Champlain Bridge over the Ottawa River back to the Quebec side...

I'm looking pretty calm despite the fact Mrs D was driving don't you think?

Maybe it was the couple of pints of Sapporo with dinner.

Make your way over to Challenge co-ordinator P.J.'s blog and see what other folks have come up with today/tonight. Cheers.

It was the after-effect of the beer, Indigo. Actually, I was nodding off.

I love the effect of fuzzy lights of shots in the dark. Or maybe it is the Miller's.

I especially like the picture on the bridge. Great job with your iPhone. I'm struggling with PJ's weekly challenge this week - smartphonography - because I haven't made friends with my iPhone camera yet!

Every time I see a glowing read face I think Cape Fear.

I really like your photos....especially the one of you being calm. Is Mrs. Dufus a super good driver and you're feeling super safe? I am sure that is the case.

It's just point and shoot. Although it took me a while to figure out how to turn off the flash.

I don't own a boat. But I live near a marina!

So um, you may have been calm despite Mrs. D's driving, but I'd really like to know how she felt driving while sitting beside a very calm sociopath/serial killer? Love all the photos, mon ami. Really. I swear. Please don't kill me with a axe.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, Mrs D is the best driver in the world, apart from running red lights in Montreal which I'll never let her forget.

I think the thing is that neither of us likes being a passenger. What we need is a car with two sets of steering wheels, gas pedals and brakes. I know when I drive I already have the passenger seat air bag.

Are you involved with the rotting, decomposing, reeking alien bodies Nicky talked about in her post?

I think the Saporro's hurt your ability on the Champlain Bridge photo, too. :)
Nicky said…
But EVERYBODY runs red lights in Montreal.
nonamedufus said…
Good thing I'm not driving when we go there. I'd have to keep my hands on the wheel and wouldn't be able to cover my eyes.
nonamedufus said…
Rotting, decomposing, reeking alien bodies? No I'm not a member of Nicky's family. I had 2 versions of that picture. One was clear and the other red. The red one looks more, um, red.

I really like reading a post that will make men and women think.

Sure, blame it on the booze ;)

I had no idea that you guys had a Champlain Bridge as well. It's not crumbling like ours though, is it?
nonamedufus said…
No, not anymore. They converted it from a 2-lane to a 3-lane about 13 years ago. That Champlain guy really got around in his day.

I thought not and now I've figured it out ~ postprandial stupor.

I have a Samsung droid camera phone & we will never, ever make friends. I'm glad I haven't jumped aboard PJ's weekly theme train.

I had to look it up but, yeah, I am prone to high blood sugar. Just started daily doses of long-acting insulin. Sigh.

A wee bit sensitive about the Leafs are we?

I like the shot on the bridge. I feel as if I am there, in the car, though if I turned and saw your red face I might jump out!
nonamedufus said…
If you jumped out you'd land in the river, Babs. I think the rain is what makes that pic interesting. The bridge not me.

No, hey, I'm a Sens fan. Maryse cheers for the Habs.
nonamedufus said…
Aw, c'mon don't be so negative. You should commit and see what develops.

With my propensity for tripping over things and falling down, it's just as well I sat out this challenge. I shouldn't be allowed out after dark.
nonamedufus said…
I gather though if the prompt were "trip" you'd excel?
Cheryl said…
John, you have got to take better care of your frail self. What next? Warts?

Trying to decipher this code: Senators & Habitual Losers? (I can't find any team with a city or team name that begins with Habs.)
nonamedufus said…
Les Habitants is a nickname for the Montreal Canadians.

My goodness, what do they put in the beer in Canada? Lovely photos, Red, I particularly love the shiny lights on the bridge.

I like that shot of the lights on the bridge. You're already a photo up on us for the Bridges theme for the month of June.
nonamedufus said…
Hey, I never thought of that, Paul. I have two challenges this month: 1) remember to go out and take pictures 2) find 5 bridges.
nonamedufus said…
Thanks there cowgirl.
nonamedufus said…
Oh, geez, don't start calling me Red, although that's almost what I look like after the medication I take Monday's.

Great shots! Between the pints of Corona and Sapporo, I can't wait to see what you come up with for next month! :-)

I think you've got some Dale Evans in you.

Well I've got to spend my spare time doing something. I'm talking about photography, not drinking. Although...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
