Photo Blogging Challenge - March

P.J. over at a 'lilhoohaa has initiated a new blog challenge. It's a monthly post of five photos that summarize the month's theme. March's theme was My World. I'm a little late with my submission. I totally forgot about having agreed to participate. I got so used to relaxing after February's 30 Days of Writing challenge hosted by Nicky and Mike that this completely slipped my mind until I saw Cheryl  Duford's post on Facebook today. Check out P.J.'s blog for the rest of the submissions, including Cheryl's.

Meanwhile, here's mine.

In My World in March Ziva sent me Finnish candy. Here's a pic and you can read about my little taste test experience here.

Unfortunately, while Ziva was very sweet to send me these confections her candies were not. So I proposed to send her in return a real Canadian sweet - a May West.

You'll notice the package even has a picture of Ziva, or at least a picture of what I imagine Ziva to look like. Needless to say we couldn't finish the Finnish candy (heh, heh).

Meanwhile, back where I live in Aylmer, Quebec we got a huge dump of snow in March. How huge? Well here's a couple of photos of the aftermath. The first picture's a matter-of-fact point and shoot to give you some idea of how much snow. The second is my attempt at one of those artsy-fartsy visual compositions that people like Cheryl and Ziva are renowned for. How'd I do guys?

And we closed out the month with an Easter weekend jaunt to COTU (centre of the universe, otherwise known as Toronto) to visit my brother Whitey. What a talented guy. Look at the breakfast he fixed us...

Pea meal bacon - my favourite. And the fruit was an especially nice touch. He impressed Mrs D all to hell. Look what I have to live up to now!

All you late people in the challenge! I'm setting up an e-mail reminder. It's noted on today's post, which has April's theme.

Breakfast looks good. And the snow... it needs to go away!

Yum, salmiakki! And that May West thingy sure looks good. I've no idea how they got my photo, though.. That's a bit scary.

And I am so proud of you, being all artsy-fartsy with the snow photo!

That's not Ziva in that photo. I don't see a single whip or riding crop.

I'll be posting, too, P.J.

Still can't comment on your blog, tho. Sucks.

Is "late people" politically correct, P.J.?

Artsy-fartsy is my middle name, Ziva. Although at this stage in my life I have a lot of middle names.

Whip? Yeah, whipped chocolate!

Ha, one of the "Late People".

Hey, what's pea meal bacon? I never heard of that.

It's a Canadian thing. So yummy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peameal_bacon

Fascinating to note the differences between two regions of Canada. I'm in Alberta, a long way west of the COTU. I've never heard of May West candy. And we call pea meal bacon "Canadian bacon" or "back bacon" (or, if we're feeling particularly redundant it's "Canadian back bacon"). Nice photos. More snow in the forecast for here later in the week, but the "big melt" is underway at the moment.

I was in Toronto and Kingston on the weekend. Neither have snow. Ours has melted somewhat since those pics but we've still got enough here to delay getting out on the golf course.

Feel free to send Whitey down with both his cooking skills and some of those May West's, I love both your 'holy crap' and 'artsy-fartsy' snow photos but please keep that snow to yourself.

Whitey's quite the breakfast specialist. You should see his Eggs Benedict, which he's named Eggs Willowdale after his neighbourhood.

ugh... snow.... to the McMax! Nice pics... mine were posted this morning- I'm late!

Big difference from this time last year, Barb, when the snow was gone and the temp was gorgeous. Winter sucks.

Love the picture of Ziva on the package of Mae Wests! The snow pictures...not so much. And the breakfast? I want me some of that!
nonamedufus said…
Thanks, Boom Boom. How's Florida? Nice and warm?

Yep, that is my image of Ziva too (course, sans the whips, chains and STILETTOS!

So, I'm not the only one, then?

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...
