Photo Blogging Challenge - April

So P.J. over at A 'lil Hoohah has this photo challenge going. It's a monthly thing and asks participants to shoot five photos based on a monthly theme. April's theme was transportation. And I covered this off in two ways. First, I used my sense of humour that I know you've all come to know and love and took pictures of things you may not think actually represent transportation. Second, I took all the pictures from a car. Transportation. Get it? You're about to. Here we go...

A bus on the Ottawa River Parkway.

The entrance to the soon to open driving range.
(Get it? Transportation? Driving(?) range.)

The entrance to the boat storage at the marina on the Ottawa River.
They'll soon be dropped in the water and docked.

Rent-a-bikes near the Rideau Canal.

A Canadian goose out looking for it's flock.
Hey, aviation is transportation. To be on the safe side
there' a car in the background.

And that was my April in pictures of transportation. Fly on over to P.J.'s blog, you can click on the link above, and see what other folks were up to.

I like the marina photo best, mostly because it's dark and troubled looking. Also, because I like boats and the water.

I also have a question for you: Why are those geese called Canadian geese? We have so many here, it seems to me they could be America geese. What makes the Canadian?
P.J. said…
Oh, Dufus. Well done this month. And the humor (spelled right), well, it sticks out. However, I'm shocked that you called that bird a Canadian Goose. It's a Canada Goose. I think that's because no country wants to claim them as their own, so just the name of the country? I used to call it a Canadian Goose too. Then I was corrected (more than once) in the newsroom. Who knew?

Oh yeah, don't forget to go put your link in the linky thing, so others can see your post!

You are such a funny man, my Dufus, always making me smile. And I love the photo of the goose.

They eat Tim Bits like they're going out of style.

Canadian/Canada same diff. Boy, you're picky. Hey I had trouble accessing your blog this morning but was able to link up this afternoon. Some great photographers this month. Impressive.

Almost looks good enough to eat, right?

Got a couple of smiles out of me this time around. Those rental bike stands look pretty appealing. Our oldest son will be in Ottawa for a while this summer...maybe he can check them out in person.

Hello NN, thanks for stopping by my neck of the woods in the Bluegrass State. I enjoyed your blog. Very creative take and some good photos. Glad to meet ya.

It's an interesting innovation. Not sure how it works. I guess feeding coins into the rack unlocks a bike which can be dropped off at another rack elsewhere in the city.
nonamedufus said…
Same here QMM. Been a little sick lately so pics from the car was all I could manage this time around.

I guess you can take the person out of the newsroom but not the newsroom out of the person?

Thank you for including the goose. I wanted to post 5 birds in flight and managed to restrain myself but not without a whole lot of internal dialogue. The entrance to the driving range looks so inviting. I hope you feel up to shooting some gulls when the greens are ready.

So I see Bixi has infested the Ottawa area too. I'm all for cycling but man, Bixi riders are some of the worst cyclists out there. I feel that it's because many of them aren't regular cyclists, so the inexperience shows.

Nice shots. That lone car is sitting duck when that goose does its fly over

Yeah, we've had those bikes for several years now. I've never seen anyone riding one though. And I suppose that car owner's goose is cooked.

Except for the pic of the bike stand, April in your neck of the woods looks just about as overcast as ours was. May seems to be shaping up nicely, though. I hope you're feeling better, mon ami.

The other 4 pics were all taken on the same day on a drive back from my accountant. I was the driver. The bike pic was a sunnier day and I was the passenger. But, yeah, April was overall the pits. May? I can take this 25C weather, for sure.

The photo with the bikes make it look they're a bunch of exercise bikes out in the open. Just sit there going nowhere, while losing some weight.

Ha, they do don't they. Ironically I haven't ridden a bike to exercise in a long time.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav...
