Channeling Johnny Cash

I've been on a bit of a Johnny Cash jag lately; listening to his American Recordings series, his historic At Folsom Prison and several CDs of his collected works. I've kinda had Johnny Cash on the brain. And it got me to thinking, "Hey, maybe there's a hidden meaning behind his song titles."

What got me going was I Walk the Line. When were were younger the lyrics we sang were, "I keep my pants done up with a piece of twine, because you're mine, just pull the twine". Yeah, pretty silly, eh? Well, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

I Walk The Line
The mantra of the surviving members of the Flying Wallendas.

Ring Of Fire
The result of drinking 13 Coronas the night before.

Man In Black
What they called that movie before they signed Will Smith to co-star with Tommy Lee Jones.

One Piece At A Time
Rules for successfully completing jigsaw puzzles

Send A Picture Of Mother
His first request if Norman Bates had gone to prison.

A Boy Named Sue
Because your mother really, really wanted a girl.

OR

The name of your personal injury lawyer.

The Beast In Me
That's the last time I order those double Tabasco sauce-laced burritos with jalapeno peppers.

Cry, Cry, Cry
I said that's the last time I order those double Tabasco sauce-laced burritos with jalapeno peppers.

Personal Jesus
The Latino fella that you pay under the table for doing your gardening.

Ha! Funny stuff!

It's also funny that last night the hubs and I were watching Shawshank Redemption (LOVE IT), and we were at THAT scene when Andy becomes a *itch and we said Johnny Cash sang a song about it: At Folsom Prison *itch!

hahahaha

Well not for what happened to Andy or the thousands of other prison *itches.

Ouch.
Maybe if you play his tunes backwards you will hear the secret message telling you to do something.

Just pull the twine. Cute!

Quirks: Actually I think that song was "Hurt".

Everyday Goddess: Everybody knows if you play c&w backwards you get your house back, you get your pick-up back, you get your girl back, you get your dog back...
And with that, the Man in Black rolls over in his grave...
Well, isn't that just cosmic... Walk the Line just arrived in my mailbox from Netflix! Perfect timing! I'll be thinking of you as I watch it, Dufus.

Boom Boom: Great film. Joaquin Phoenix is great.

Linda: I couldn't resist. You know what you call 10 lawyers on the bottom of the ocean? A good start!

*whispers* Dufe, man, Linda's son is a lawyer.

*Clears throat* Funny stuff Dufus! Well, except for that lawyer joke, of course. That wasn't funny at all. Lawyers are people too. I think.

Nicky: Linda's son is a lawyer? Wow. I bet she knows some great lawyer jokes!

Coincidentally, the week I am looking for my missing Johnny Cash CD and can't find it, I find this post. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.
That being said, did you take it?

Hey, how else do you think I knew of these songs.

Hey, you've been trolling. Good to see you've been taking yourself on a little tour, here.

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav...

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...
