Photo Challenge - May

They say April showers bring May flowers but around here it just brought more showers. We've had more than enough rain. So much so it prevented me from getting out onto the golf course. I did get out though to snap some shots for this month's photo challenge from P.J. His theme this month was "fun". And so I had a little fun with the following pictures...

It was a rainy day and the playground was abandoned but I know on sunnier days little ones have fun on this apparatus.

It looks a little worse for wear but there was a time kids had fun playing tennis here.

Speaking of kids, what's more appealing than a cereal "fun pack". For an old guy with diabetes I avoided these.

We use this little guy for chemical pucks to chlorinate our pool. What's more fun than a pool? Or a plastic duck with sunglasses?

This creature sits in a corner on our deck. What can be more Canadian then a moose flower pot?

That's the collection for May. Click the link above to P.J.'s blog and see the pix of other participants this month.

Those last two shots really made me smile! Love the moose flower pot; although it would look a bit out of place in middle Missouri!

Those last 2 shots were in my backyard. Funny (no pun intended re: the prompt) how the coolest pics are closest to home.

I love the moose flower pot particularly.

I may be wrong but I think we bought that moose in Maine. The such we got at Wal-Mart I think.

It screamed out to me when I was shopping last week. But I resisted.

Thanks, I think it's so cool.

As soon as we buy the flowers.

What a great mix of fun colours in your photos this month. And that puck duck...must get one for our hot tub. It would prompt a smile every time I lift the lid! The moose is also great, but I think an elk would be more suitable to our part of Canada!
Ha ha ha you have a duck photo too!!! YEAAAA!!!!!!!! I think I see myself underneath trying to kiss it!

This line "For an old guy with diabetes I avoided these." made me laugh out loud. We were never allowed to eat sweet cereal stuff, but on trips Mom would allow us to eat those. The boxes were perforated so you could cut them open like flaps, open the bag and pour cereal IN the actual container. I wonder if they still do that!

I remember those, Katherine. I haven't eaten cereal in some time so I don't know if they're still around.

Glad you enjoyed the duck and moose as much as we do. Around here it's a sure sign if spring when we get them out.
Glad to see you've got your priorities straight with the duck and moose.
Like Katherine, we got those little boxes only when we were camping. They were SO cool! And clean-up was a breeze!

The duck, the moose, a Corona. Could life get much better.

Weren't they leaky?
What's amazing is, they didn't leak! I'll have to get some for my camping trip in August! (Yes, I'll be up your way again!)

At first I read, "What can be more Canadian than pot?" That said, that Moose is kinda trippy. Nice batch of photos, Dufus. Also, cool duck!

I've read two blog posts for this theme and already I'm sensing "Ducks" can be a lot of fun.

I like how you composed the playground shot. The red steps lead you into the scene nicely.

I'm glad you liked it. I was't entirely happy with my playground shots but that was the best of the lot.

What can be more Canadian than pot? I like how your mind (or your eyes) work.

You're more than welcome! Although we'll be at a different address. Let's keep in touch the sooner it gets.
What? You're moving away from the pool and the rubber ducky and the moose? I think we have to get Nicky on board for a visit, too! Or maybe we should just go visit her!

The more the merrier. We're losing a pool but we're gaining a hot tub. We'll be taking the ducky and the moose though.

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
