I need to follow "news" a bit closer. I heard briefly the Gibson had gone into a rant about something, and Sarah Palin had an issue with her daughter's boyfriend. That's it. I dropped it after that.

Don: I really wouldn't call those things news...more items that interest TMZ and Entertainment Tonight. Although both stories have been everywhere you look!

Like Don, I'm a little 'out of the loop', too. Now I understand the word "refudiate" when you used it in a comment somewhere - I found an article in the Washington Post by Jack Knox about Palin (I tried to past the link here, but it didn't work).

Love the "Field of Dreams" 'toon (at least I got that one!)
;-)

(my word veri: "gnali" - how a Bonstonian says "gnarly")

I have to admit, I LOVE "refudiate". It's the new potatoe. But the Mel Gibson rants are just depressing. The guy was raised by a serious racist, but come on -- that's no excuse for such vile beliefs. And if he hit the girlfriend too? Trash. Trash with 900 million dollars, true.

Well, Gibson may not be aware, but he just might have a future as a writer, seen that his movie career may have ended right here. When his rant was transcripted and fed into the I Write Like-program, the label it got was Margaret Atwood! On the other hand, this program may not be all that reliable. When Atwood's own text was fed to it, it was labelled.... Stephen King. :D

00dozo: What, you too? The Gibson and Palin stories carried "top of mind" for a couple of weeks...sadly. I'll check out your story in the Post. Meantime check out mine from my political satire blog Slings and Arrows @ http://nonamedufus.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/palin-drones/ You'll have to cut and paste the address from here to your browser. Just delete the existing url in your browser and replace it with this. If that fails, go to my right-hand column, click on Slings and Arrows and scroll to July 22 - "Palin Drones"

00dozi: Love your take on "ganil"!!!

KABLOOEY: The guy's not a nice person, obviously. I guess that's why they call what he does in his movies "acting".

RA: That's priceless. When I tried it, it came out as Raymond Chandler. I wonder what would happen if you fed Stephen King into it?

You know I know we're all human and do stupid things but this Mel Gibson thingy?

Too much.

It was after the fourth, fifth, twenty-thousandth rant and I saw that some channel (lucky for them I don't remember which one) was airing all the Lethal Weapon movies and I couldn't even stand the thought of watching.

Of course, I'm not a Lethal Weapon movie fan, but that is besides the point!

I look forward to your Sunday Funnies every week. I never fail to guffaw.

But who or what comes up with the word verifications? Sarah Palin?
nonamedufus said…
Quirks" Yeah, what's up with Gibson? He's gone from Mad Max to Mad Mel.

Kelly: I'm glad you enjoy them. I have a great time choosing them.

Sarah Palin choosing my word-veri. Good one. You'd think so, wouldn't you!

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy! ...

My Back Pages - October

Well, folks, I read seven (count 'em) seven books in October. One I didn't finish but even at that I hit the magic number 50 I estimated for myself by the end of the year. The six books I successfully waded through were, firstly, What Happened, Hillary Clinton's book on her bid for the Presidency. I''m a bit of a political junkie so I get off on this stuff but still it kinda struck me as one long whine over losing. Next up was the excellent Canyon of Dreams: The Magic and Music of Laurel Canyon. Laurel Canyon was the fabled area outside of Los Angeles where many musicians and artists lived. Known as a 60s enclave, the book takes a look at just who lived there over the last 80 years. A fascinating read. Next up was Lightfoot, a biography of Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot. He may have been responsible for some iconic folk songs but he was also quite the womanizer and boozer. Enough said. Then I read Dan Brown's new tome Origin, the fifth ...
