Hey! You Can't Park Here

When I was a kid learning to drive, the thing I had the most trouble with was trying to park.  I could reverse. I could stay in my lane. I was able to properly stop at an intersection. And when I was older and had my own car, I was able to start and go with a manual shift on a hill.  I was pretty proud of that.  But parking always gave me a problem.  You know something, though?  Seems I wasn't alone.

Take this fella for instance.  He was gonna park in this spot no matter what...

And this guy thinks he - and his car - are so special he can take up two spots.  I hate when that happens...

Of course then there are folks who aren't gonna sit still for that kind of thing...

And then there are those annoying drivers who double park...

And others park just anywhere they want, like this woman.  I still don't know how she managed to get out of her car.

And then there are drivers who aren't exactly clear on the difference of moor and park...

And, of course, there's special parking spots for certain drivers like expectant mothers and handicapped individuals.  But it doesn't end there.  There's parking for moms with kids and now moms with squids...

These spots don't appear to get a lot of use for some reason...

And this spot gets more use than some of us might think...

I think some witch must own this parking lot...

Whatever you do, though, even if it's the last parking spot available, don't mess with Joe...

And I thought I had problems learning to park!

"Park" is this week's Theme Thursday prompt.  Drive on over there and see how other bloggers covered the theme off.

Absolutely priceless! Had to take a second look to be sure I saw right the first time... LOL
A marvellous TT!
Love the drunk driver parking spot! I can't imagine living in a place where you have to fight for parking. My driveway may be buckled and disintegrating, but at least it's off street.

Ha ha! Funny! Love the frog lovers sign (groan).
;-) Great TT!

RA: Yeah some of these pics are a hoot. This was a fun post.

CL: Yeah, I have no problems either, but sometimes when you drive downtown finding a spot can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
nonamedufus said…
00dozo: Yeah, that was a good one. *ribbit* You really have to hop to it to find a parking spot there.

This was SO much fun! Great job, I'll be pushing this all over the place!

ha. these are absolutely hillarious...that squid trick is one sure way no one will steal your spot. haha. happy tt!

Austin: Thanks, man. Glad you liked it.

Brian: Not unless someone's hungry and takes it home for dinner! Ha.

Wow, you sure got a lot of "park" photos. Great job! I love the one stranded between the dock and the boat!

Lyndsey: Once I started looking I couldn't stop! If that boat weren't "parked" at the dock that poor woman and her car would have ended up in the water.

I've really never had a problem parking, backing up, going forward, flying, landing or standing upright while at attention. What I do have a problem with is peeing in a toilet while intoxicated.

Nice take on the park theme. I have to laugh and wonder at the bull and spaceship symbols. I guess there is some special meaning to them, unless it's just for fun.

I never had a problem parking a car. My wife now....that's a different story.

I love the cow parking. The Alien one? Take it or leave it. Ha! (Kidding!)

Although I did watch the remake of War of the Worlds recently (thanks TNT) and those aliens were HUGE. Ginormous. That parking spot wouldn't even house one of their...anything.

Was that why they were so pissed and attacked the human race?

Finally! We know why!

B.S. All the pics were fantabulous!

Don: Funny, I have problems peeing in the toilet of a moving bus. Might as well be drunk, I guess. You could always sit down.
nonamedufus said…
Matty: I think the cow and spaceship spots are just for laughs. I wonder how many people actually don't park in those spots?

Quirks: And when the guy from space lands in the parking spot he has to tell his kid: "Close the car door, HAL". hahaha

Parents with squids? Really? Hilarious photos. The "double parked" was my favorite. Happy TT.

Leeuna: That dead squid's one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Well apart from my best friend's sister when I was growing up.

That's hilarious! Some people really shouldn't be driving. But, I'm just curious, how exactly did you get a picture of me parking my boat?
nonamedufus said…
Ziva: Well, I found your boat but you were nowhere to be seen!

Moor? Park? Moorpark. That's a city in California, believe it or else.

Funny stuff, Dufus.

Francisca: I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Jingle: I'm already "simling" from your comment. ;)

Chris: Are there many boat's in the city's parking lots?
Do people there do Othello impersonations? Do hounds from Baskerville run wild there? Just curious.

Aww...you get the prize for the best 'park' post of the day! SO funny. Loved the squid the best! LOL!!! Living away from any big cities, I never get to practice parallel parking...I bet I couldn't do it now if I tried! ha.
nonamedufus said…
Betsy: Woo-hoo! Betsy thinks I'm the best! Yeah, I can do it now, but as a kid I hated parallel parking. I used to drive my Dad's late 60s Pontiac Strato Chief. It was a boat - and a bitch to park!

When someone takes up too spots, I poop on their windshield.

If I have no poop i go eat indian food and come back.

Trueish story.
nonamedufus said…
Spaz: Well, that's one way of dealing with it. No amount of windshield washer fluid's gonna take care of that!
Jaffer said…
Love the pictures - I must say that I still have trouble when parking.

I can parallel-park very well - but I still have trouble when pulling the car into a parking space - whether it's at the mall or at the parking garage or at the apartment complex !

I still wonder how I passed my driving test - I screwed it when pulling into the test center !

Duff- where is your email addy?

Anyways, listen. If you register over at DOAD I'll give you your free subscription.

Thanks for helping!!
nonamedufus said…
Jaffer: Don't you hate it when you're too close to the car on one side and too far on the other or when the two cars are too close to you on both sides. Those spots really should be bigger!
nonamedufus said…
Spaz: No problem. Happy to help.
Mike said…
No name duf:

Thanks man. I gave you a subscription. Enjoy the arcade and route finder and casino and stuff!

These were great! The two-spot parker is a personal pet peeve of mine. You had me there...but it got funnier and funnier. The designated cow and alien spots were awesome. :)

Happy TT!

The Polka Dot Door

A long time ago, when I was 22, my first child was born.  That kid grew up on a little Canadian kid's show called Polka Dot Door, produced by the TV Ontario network.  And Dad, more often than not, sat through those shows with his little one. Nine or so years later when a brother, and a year after that when a sister came along number one son was moving on to Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard.  But there was a nice overlap where his siblings picked up where he had left off with Polka Dot Door.  And Dad was right there to welcome them. So you're looking at a Polka Dot Door veteran.  The show began in 1971 and ran to 1993.  I didn't watch the full run but I did get in my fair share.  The formula was pretty simple.  A young male and female host, which seemed to change every week, sang songs, told stories, made crafts and generally did their best stimulate little brains.  The show opened as follows... Imagination Day!  Oh boy!  You know what happens on Imagination D

My Back Pages - November

I know, I know, I know I should have reported in before now. But sometimes real life just gets in the way. I attempted 5 books in November. I say attempted because I slapped a big DNF (did not finish) on Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I just can't seem to get into this guy. It's the second or third of his I've given up on, Not so the other four, starting with a biography of Stephen Stills called Change Partners. This followed by a hilarious biography of the guy responsible for National Lampoon called A Stupid and Futile Gesture - How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever. I ended the month reading yet another biography, this one of the man behind Rolling Stone magazine,. It was called Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine. A fascinating read. So last month I hit the magic number 50 I'd imagined for myself back in January. If I roll this month into my yearly total I'm at 54 books. And I still hav
