You Know You're Getting Older When...

Two days past my birthday, and I came across these one-liners about getting old. I love the one about the address book with people that mostly start with Dr!

You know you're getting older when:

A fortune teller offers to read your face
The little old gray haired lady you help across the street... is your wife
You get that one candle on the cake. It's like, "See if you can blow this out." (Jerry Seinfeld)
You know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions
You feel like the night after, and you haven't been anywhere

You actually want socks for Christmas.
You and your teeth don't sleep together
Everything hurts and what doesn't hurt doesn't work
You remember when the Dead Sea was only sick
Your idea of a night out is sitting on the patio.

You're on vacation, and your energy runs out before your money does.
All you want for your birthday is to not be reminded of your age.
Your address book has mostly names that start with Dr.
You're asleep, but others worry that you're dead

You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room
People call at 9:00 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"
You send money to PBS
The end of your tie doesn't come anywhere near the top of your pants.

You can't remember the last time you laid on the floor to watch television.
You talk about "good grass" and you're referring to someone's lawn.
You got cable for The Weather Channel.
You find yourself smiling at this list

The Big 55

Well, yesterday, April 28th, was my 55th birthday. Though I never knew it, 55 is a rather remarkable number.

For example fifty-five is:
The number of delegates who attended the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787
In US gallons, a common size of drum containing liquids; see 55 US gallon drum
In miles per hour, see 55 mph
In years of marriage, the emerald wedding anniversary
The code for international direct dial phone calls to Brazil
The number of European route E55 from Helsingborg, Sweden to Greece

The designation of I-55, a freeway that runs from Louisiana to Illinois

Restaurant slang for root beer

The number of Sacha Baron Cohen's character, Jean Girard, in the 2006 film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
In real life, however, it is the number of Michael Waltrip
In 1973, Spiro Agnew, resigned the Vice Presidency at age 55
Pablo Picasso completed his "Guernica" in 1937, at age 55
Pro Blend 55 Mocha Capuccino mix
55 Days at Peking starred Charlton Heston and David Niven

Britvic 55 , A soft drinks brand in the UK

And in mathematics, fifty-five is a heptagonal number, a centered nonagonal number, and a triangular number (the sum of the numbers 1 to 10) and a square pyramidal number (the sum of the squares of the integers 1 to 5).

The moon looked like this when I was born!

Here's an interestimg site, documenting April 28, 1952:

Here's one of my favourite comedy routines, perhaps second-only in all time classical routines to Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First". Copper Clappers with Jack Webb and Johnny Carson.

And, what the heck, here's Who's on First

The oldest and greatest rock band in the world - meet The Zimmers and their amazing cover of The Who's "My Generation".Lead singer Alf is 90 - it's quite something when he sings "I hope I die before I get old". And he's not the oldest - there are 99 and 100-year-olds in the band! The Zimmers will feature in a BBC TV documentary being aired in May 2007. Documentary-maker Tim Samuels has been all over Britain recruiting isolated and lonely old people - those who can't leave their flats or who are stuck in rubbish care homes. The finale of the show is this group of lonely old people coming together to stick it back to the society that's cast them aside - by forming a rock troupe and trying to storm into the pop charts. Some massive names from the pop world have thrown their weight behind The Zimmers... The song is produced by Mike Hedges (U2, Dido, Cure), the video shot by Geoff Wonfor (Band Aid, Beatles Anthology), and it was recorded in the legendary Beatles studio 2 at Abbey Road.

Makes perfectly good sense to me.

PHOTOS of Kelowna and Maui

From time to time I'll be posting some of my favouritie photos. For example, here are some shots form our trip to Kelowna in December '06. "Hi, Boo-boo!"

And here are some pix from a fabulous trip to Maui, Hawaii in January '07.

Maui was such an island of contrasts and the weather was gorgeous. I could have stayed forever.

In March '07, Matt and I visited Jim and Lucille in Toronto. While there, we took in the Raptors playing the Orlando Magic. I got to see my all-time favourite player, Orlando's Grant Hill in action and the Raptor's showed how they got to the playoffs, taking the Magic 92-85. What a time. Thanks, Matt

Apple Computer announced today that it has developed a computerchip that can store and play music in women's breast implants. The iBreast will cost $499 or $599 depending on cup size. This is considered to be a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

Hey, here's a video or two that I like for various reasons.

First there's "OK Go", who actually won a You Tube Award for this:

Then there's this absolutely wild commercial:

And finally, Maryse just loves this song by Michael Andrews (originally by Tears for Fears) "Mad World"

Here's something kind of cool and, oddly, pretty darn accurate! (Junkie Monkey?)
